This year I have different shifters, and it pops out of gear. Should I get a shifter that locks in place? If so where? Should I have it gone through? Can I do it myself? Is there a secret to getting those heims adjusted just right? I'm at aloss! please help this is giving me grey hair.

sounds like you need an adjustment on the length of the rod(s). there is a detent that the shifter should move the transmissions rod into. it is a groove that a spring loaded ball pushes into when correctly located. if your rod is too short or too long the transmission may not go into gear or it may hang in gear. ours hangs in reverse and the driver must remember to move the reverse handle in order to put it in low. hope this helps.
