Ok thought the power steering pump was going out or did go out but that doesn't seem to be the trouble.......... yet. Under acceleartion I have steering, under decel or slowing, braking etc no power steering and then I'm along for the ride. Any ideas ?
Oh yea and the first one to say that I should just keep my foot in it and quit slowing down get's the photoshop treatment

Mnmracer, someone told me a few years ago the GM metric style ( the ones with the Orings ) were prone to wear out pretty quick when used in racing. It never happened to me but maybe you could try another pump. GOOD LUCK- hope it helps

Check the lines to make sure there are no kinks or soft spots where the line might be collapsing.
I'm still votin' for the belt being too loose.

Perhaps the problem is a lose nut behind the steering wheel!

Thanks for the help, it was the belt, seems that a belt doesn't really last 3 years :D but the pump is going because it still gets sluggish but all is well for now.
