That's a tough one, here are my picks. 1. Scott Weber 2. Jim Shereck 3. Ray Walsh 4. Dean Hoffman 5. Leroy Haney

Weber is fast at alot of places, and can dominate at times @ Pevely....but Jim Schereck has lots of feathers in his hat with big wins @ Eldora, Florida Speedweeks Champ, numerous UMP wins around the midwest, etc....
Dean Hoffman is not from Missouri.

Even though Hoffman isn't from MO he is still a contender anywhere he goes. As a matter of fact Walsh, Weber, Hoffman, and there are others, if they traveled as much as Shereck I'm sure they'd be very successful no matter where they go. They all have excellent race programs.

Walsh won Florida Speedweek 3 years ago , PIZZA MAN 2 YEARS AGO . iN MY VIEW ALL LOCAL RACERS ARE TOP NOCH, AS THEY SAY ON ANY GIVEN NITE. p s SOME DON"T HAVE THE MONEY TO TRAVEL AS MUCH!

Watch out for Rich Whaley this year, #59 modified. He's finished 3rd in points the last twoo years, he may be a sleeper this year.

Well...if we can include some IL. side guys...how can you leave out the UMP Champ. Schwartz has a top notch ride, and even though some might not like his driving style he is a threat to win every where he shows up.
I guess the consesus is that we are lucky to have soooo many great Mods around here...I still believe that the Mods are THE most competitive class to compete in.
CRAZYFAN
02-28-2004, 12:36 PM
I agree the modifieds are the most competitive class right now. They are the only class where there isn't much separation from the front runners to ones running in the back. These guys definitely earn every position they finish.

I Would Have To Say Rusty Griffaw Because He Is Second In Points In The Ump National Points. He Has Also Proven To Be One Of The Most Consistant Drivers Out There On A Weekly Basis.

Is Josh Racing this year? If so where? I thought I heard they sold everything but then again it was " I HEARD " can you confirm this one way or another? And he was alway fun to watch. Lot's of potential.. :)
Also I think there is a huge difference between racing for points and racing for money. Some race for money and could care a less about the points.. I think those points just happen for them. $$$$$
And others are chasing points. I hear that can make you crazy so anyone who is doing it hat's off and good luck..

oh and here we go again you keep mouthing. if i recall at SFCR Griffaw ran in the top 5. hmm..let me see...1.Schrader,2.Billy Smith,3.Griffaw. I think that's right. I do know he was in the top 5 where bittle and weber both dropped out of the race. bittle lead the feature all the way up to prolly the 20th lap and he broke. weber blew a tire and left the track. I do remember seeing griffaw battling with weber before weber blew a tire.Actually i think griffaw was ahead of weber for awhile, weber was having a heck of a time getting by him. but anways.....don't take anything away from rusty griffaw he's a good racer. I'm not taking anything away from Scott Weber or Bobby Bittle cause there both awesome drivers. hte moral to this is...quit mouthing drivers! why are you doing that???

Go 410, Tell him like it is! If anyone thinks there is only 10 cars showing up at MCS, they should pull thier head out of thier AZZ! Also anyone that gets on these forums and runs thier mouth about other drivers should log off thier computer and talk to some one that wants to hear it! All that aside here is my picks;
Sherech
Weber
Walsh In no particular order!
Griffaw
Bittle
In closing I want to agree with several other people who have replied to this post. We are very fortunate to have so many great drivers in this area. People could argue all day long who is the "Best". Just be thankful that we have great racing to watch at numerous tracks. "The soapbox is now closed!"

For someone that doesnt race full time i would have to say John Hobson, everywhere we see him at different tracks he is always in the hunt. Also have to vote for Rayfield, Griffaw, and Shereck.

you all think that rusty is better than he really is. he is a good driver but he isn't the best in mo. that would have to be 4j. the only reason that rusty is 2nd in ump points is because he races where there is no competition. he did arun at pevely and do good, but he isn't going to come to pevely and beat the top 5 drivers at this time.

Rusty has a 10 point advantage in the UMP National point standings. So by standard, Mr. Griffaw currently is the best in Missouri and the best in the nation.

I'm sure Rusty doesn't give a rat's @ss who people think is the best. He definitely won't if his name is on the champion's check when its all said and done.
As far as where he races???? Well, money wise it sounds like he is smart.

You know what, I dunno if Rusty is the best in MO, but I really don't care either. He's a good driver, so are the the other drivers listed on here. Rusty may or may not be avoiding competition by racing there, I really don't know haven't been there this year. He is being very smart by racing there though. He is winning every week and therefore he is the UMP national points leader. In the end he really won't care what everyone saying if he gets that check.

Nothing against Rusty...but I wonder where he would be in points if he ran I-55 every week? Shereck and Walsh are always among the point leaders in Florida Speedweeks every year, and thats against cars from about 30 states! Personally, I think the best racing and the best cars and drivers are running at I-55 right now, With a few exceptions! Mel turned me off of MCS when I went there and had to sit through an hour of qualifying!:(

Some people chase points and some chase money .... Either way you have to do what works for you... Good luck to all it's very very close. And don't forget Leka get's a night to throw out still. You all need to look at the whole picture. And race where it works best for you. Or are you a racer??? Or are you a car owner? Or are you just a stink disturber ???

He was kicked out last season...and hasn't paid his $200 fine or returned to Pevely. He could go back whenever he wants...just havta pay that stupid fine.
