View Full Version : Modifieds Prepare for $1,000-to-win at Columbus Saturday

Open-Wheel Modified teams are set to take the stage at Columbus Speedway on Saturday Night, August 7th for the "Modifed Mayhem 20" special event. Drivers in the wildly-competitive division will light up the racey high banks of Columbus as they fight over the $1,000 winner's share. Event after event, the Modified division has proven to be one of the most competitive and exciting divisions at Columbus Speedway of late, and with extra money and prestige on the line, the table is set for an open-wheel event to remember.

The championship event is expected to draw a strong field of drivers from throughout the mid-south area plus the potent local Columbus Speedway contingent which should make for one fine show. While the Columbus local group always proves to be a strong challenge, Open-wheelers from Tennesee, Alabama, and even Arkansas as well as other areas regularly make the trip to Mississippi for special Modified events and are always in the hunt for the big money.

The high impact show will also feature the Cajun Sprints competing in heats races and a 25-lap A-Main event. presented by Columbus Nissan. Fans should make note that a few Cajun Sprint teams are expected to have their cars on display at Columbus Nissan on Friday afternoon and also at Lowe’s on Saturday. The night of action will also see one of the biggest local division events of the year take place as the 4th Annual “Roy’s Kitchen Summer Slam 20” for the Street Stocks features $1,000 to win on the line for the Street Stock drivers. The event has traditionally drawn a very large field of talented competitors and great racing has unfolded each year. The Street Stock drivers will run their championship format which will include single lap Pole Qualifying plus B-Mains, and the 20-lap main event.

Also on tap is the annual Cruisers “BashMasters Classic” which will pay $300 to win for the Cruiser teams. Cruiser will depart from their normal event format and compete in a championship format with qualifying heat races in addition to their 15-lap main event.

Action in the Pro Street and Mini Stocks will also be featured as part of the Columbus Speedway Weekly Racing Series. There will be an open practice on Friday night from 7pm until 10pm. Grandstand admission is free and pit passes are $10.

Grandstand gates open at 5pm with practice at 7:30pm; and racing at 8pm. Adult admission is only $15 with students 11 to 18 years old admitted for only $5 with appropriate ID. Children 10 and under admitted free. Coolers and lawn chairs are welcome. Other fan friendly polices remain the same as lawn chairs and coolers are welcome. Race fans can also tune into the Columbus Speedway PA system broadcast on their FM radios by tuning to 88.5 on the FM dial.
