Oklahoma City’s State Fair Speedway will play host to the opening of the 5th season of the O’Reilly Auto Parts Topless Outlaw Racing Association this Saturday night. The 3/8 mile in the state’s capital will host its first ever O’Reilly TORA event and looks forward to an impressive field this weekend. This will mark the fourth time in five years that the O’Reilly TORA series will open their season in the Sooner State.
Steve Kosiski will lead the charge as defending champion, the first time a different driver has won the championship over three time champion Larry McDaniels. Kosiski will be on the drive for 2 aboard the familiar blue 52K.
Delbert “The Iceman” Smith will also return this year, but in a bit different fashion as he will pilot a Swartz car instead of the familiar GRT. Also expected to return are Earl Kinderknecht, McDaniels, Ryan McAninch, Dimond Mundy, Dave Conkwright, Jerrod Reimer, and Steve Foster, all of whom received awards at last years season ending banquet. Unknown on plans this year are 2004 Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year Mike Wiarda, Mike Danburg, Kyle Berck, Greg Larsen, Jason Keim, and Kelly Boen.
Fourteen pre-entries have been received thus far for the season, including Al Purkey, Smith, Kosiski, Larsen, Reimer, Dan Topliff, Kelly Brown, David Brack, and Brad Morris. Kuntz & Co. Rookie of the Year entries so far include Jeremy Bishop, Lyle Shepard, Rick Law, and Ed Martin.
For this race only Hoosier WRS D55 tires will be legal, but cars running them will not be eligible for Championship points on the night.
After a long off season Late Model drivers around the central states are ready to go racing, and this Saturday night’s event at the State Fair Speedway will officially kick off the season for many. The O’Reilly TORA Late Models will also be joined by Topless Modifieds paying $1000 to win their A Feature.
