Mark Burgtorf, Henry Delonjay, Wyatt Lance and Eddie Dieker all added to their respective points leads by winning the Annual Pepsi Mid-Season Challenge races Sunday, June 26 at Quincy Raceways. All racers for the evenings events were lined up by the draw/redraw system which provided for some different looking lineups than the normal race night. Burgtorf now hold a 32 point margin over Lonnie Bailey in his quest for a 12th track points championship at Quincy.

Jason Connoyer took the lead at the drop of the green flag in the Budweiser IMCA Late Model 30 lap feature event and held on to the top spot for the first six circuits but Mark Burgtorf was making quick work of coming to the front from his third row starting spot and took over the lead on the seventh lap. Burgtorf then survived six yellow flags to take the win. On every restart, Burgtorf would pull to a comfortable margin with Mike Karhoff holding onto the second spot til the checkered flag fell. Connoyer drove his best race of the season and claimed the third spot with Lonnie Bailey in fourth and Dustin Neese in fifth. Karhoff, Brian Kenning and Burgtorf were the heat race winners with Justin Reed taking home the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash.

Ted Allen looked like a winner again this week in the Miller Lite A Modified feature event as he led the first seventeen laps of the 20 lapper. Allen went a little too hard into turn one and that was all that Henry Delonjay needed to take Allen’s top spot. Delonjay had been pressuring Allen from the middle of the event but could not find away around. Delonjay held on for the win with Allen settling for second followed by Brandon Brown in third, David Weitholder in fourth and Kelly Bartz in fifth. Delonjay and Michael Long were the heat race winners. Delonjay now holds a 29 point lead over Brandon Lennox in the point standings.

Wyatt Lance drew the pole position for the B Modified main event a led all 20 laps on his way to his fifth points win of the season at Quincy. Joe Bliven dogged Lance throughout the event but had to settle for the second spot followed by Tony Dunker in third, Terry Houston in fourth and Robbie Carter in fifth. Bliven and Dunker were the heat race winners with Jeff Waterman taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Lance is up by 26 points over Dunker in the chase to the Track Points Championship.

Michael Larsen led the first lap of the Bomber Feature event but Fast Eddie Dieker took the lead on the second circuit and never had to look back to take the win in the 20 lap bomber main. Larsen kept Dieker within striking distance but just could not get enough of a run to challenge for the top spot and had to settle for second at the checkered flag. Bruce Hatfield followed Dieker and Larsen across the finish line for third with Matt Burgtorf in fourth and Steve Carlin in fifth. Steve Watkins Jr., Dieker and James Lain took the heat race wins.

The next week will be a busy week at Quincy Raceways as Red Cactus Salsa will be sponsoring the July 3 Special $2000 to win, $200 to start IMCA Late Model Shootout and a $1000 to win A-Modified Shootout. The starting lineups will be determined for both classes on a draw redraw format with the Late Models competing for cash and IMCA Points and the A-Modified racing for cash only as the tire rule has been opened up with the racers having the choice of either American Racers or Hoosier rubber. Also on tap will be a huge fireworks show and regular points racing in the B-Modifieds and Bombers. The gates open up 4 with hot laps at 6 and racing at 6:30pm.
