Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series "Midwest Summer Tour" Rolls Into Iowa and Illinois for 3 Shows
The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Heads back to the Midwest this coming week with three shows in two states. On Thursday Night, July 28 the series makes its first ever visit to the West Liberty Raceway in West Liberty, Iowa, then on Saturday Night, July 30 returns for the second time in '05 to the LaSalle Speedway in LaSalle, Illinois for the "Illinois Valley Challenge" and then another first time visit will take place on Sunday Night, July 31 at the Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Illinois for the "Miller Lite-Wallace Brothers Homecoming 50." The race at Tri-City Speedway will be taped for broadcast at a date and time to be announced on ESPN2. All three Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series events will feature Oval Craft Racing Aluminum Designs Time Trials, VP Fuels Makin' Power Heat Races, Mason Racin' Rebel Shock Dyno and PPM Racing Products B-Mains and each evening will end with a $10,000 to win/$700 to start main event.
The 2005 edition of the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series can be termed a success story so far with 14 different winners in 22 events and 416 different drivers have raced with the series this year starting in Florida back in February. Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN is the current series point’s leader. O'Neal has the most wins with seven victories this year. Tied for second place in points is Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH and Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Matt Miller of Waterville, OH and Scott James of Lawrenceburg, IN. James currently is the leading "Rookie of the Year" driver point’s chase.
The rest of the top ten currently for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series include: Freddy Smith of Seymour, TN, Tim Dohm of Cross Lanes, WV, Terry English of Benton, KY, Brady Smith of Solon Springs, WI and Steve Shaver of Vienna, WV.
O'Neal with his seven wins leads the victory list with Moran and English the only other drivers with more than one win on the tour this year. Other winners in '05 include: Tim McCreadie, Steve Shaver, Steve Francis, Jackie Boggs, Scott James, Jimmy Mars, Brian Birkhofer, Matt Miller, Rick Eckert, Steve Casebolt, Jr. and Robbie Scott.
While the visits to West Liberty and Tri-City are the first for the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series it LaSalle Speedway will mark a return visit this season for the series. In the first race at LaSalle back in May, Jimmy Mars of Menomonie, WI was the winner after coming from the 14th starting spot.
