Dustin Neese, Mark Burgtorf, Tony Dunker, Kale Foster and Dennis Schulte all took feature event wins at Quincy Raceways on Sunday, July 31 during Aaron’s Rents Night at the Races.
Billy Genenbacher jumped into the lead of the thirty lap Budweiser IMCA Late Model main event and looked strong to take his first ever Late Model win as he led all thirty laps to the checkered flag, but it was just not going to be his to celebrate. Genebacher was found to have a carburetor that did not conform to the IMCA Late Model rules in that it did not have the “as cast” model numbers on the center section of the carb. The IMCA National Technical Director was contacted and he made the call that the carb did not conform to the rules and that Genenbacher must therefore be disqualified. This decision gave the win to Dustin Neese who had chased Genenbacher for the entire event, even challenging for the lead during the event when lapped traffic was encountered. Neese was awarded the win, his first of the season followed by Mark Burgtorf in second, Jerry Weisenberger in third, Denny Woodworth in fourth and Kevin Tomlinson in fifth. Genenbacher and Mike Dyche took the heat race wins with Ron Elbe scoring the win in the Summy Tire and Auto Center Trophy Dash. Burgtorf now holds a 40 point margin over Lonnie Bailey in the Track Points Championship chase.
Mark Burgtorf made one of his few appearances at Quincy in the Verl Gordy owned A-Modified and made it pay off by taking an impressive win in a tune up for the USMTS Modified Series event at Quincy on Friday, August 5. Brandon Lennox held Burgtorf at bay for the first seventeen laps of the twenty lapper but Burgtorf had what it took to get by Lennox to take the lead on the eighteenth circuit to claim the win, his second in two starts in the A-Mods this season. Lennox held on to the second spot as he battled with Henry Delojay over the final three laps. Delonjay settled for third with Gary Blackburn Jr. in fourth and Dave Weitholder in fifth. Delonjay and Lonnie Heap were the heat race winners with Delonjay also taking the win in the P&S Auto and Truck Collision Repair Trophy Dash. Delonjay 23 point advantage over Lennox in the points chase.
Terry Houston led all but the final lap of the B-Modified main event but had to settle for second as he slipped high in turn number two on the final lap, giving Tony Dunker the opportunity he needed to take the lead and the win. Houston tried in vain to get the lead back from Dunker going to the checkered flag but had to settle for the second spot. Robbie Reed grabbed third followed by Wyatt Lance in fourth and Joe Blivens in fifth. Lance and Wes Mayfield were the heat race winners. Lance now holds a 29 point lead in the points battle.
Michael Larsen got the lead from Bruce Hatfield on the third lap of the twenty lap Bomber main event followed closely by Kale Foster. Foster put the pressure on Larsen throughout the event making a great race. Larsen slipped high in turn two going to the white flag with the young Foster taking advantage of the miscue to grab onto the lead. Foster then held off a determined Larsen over the remaining distance taking the win by less than a car length at the checkered flag. Larsen settled for second followed by Eddie Dieker in third, Travis Booher in fourth and Bruce Hatfield in fifth. Larsen, Dieker and Foster all took heat race wins. Dieker now holds a 21 point lead over Adam Birch as Birch exited the event on the second lap with severe damage to his mount sustained in an accident after a red flag was thrown for the flipping car of Clint Royer. Royer was unhurt as the same could not be said of his car.
Dennis Schulte made a shambles of the Short Trackers main event as he lead the entire fifteen laps to claim the feature event win. Travis Demint and Don Demint finished second and third followed by Darren Morgan and Joel Kerr in fourth and fifth.
Quincy Raceways has a busy schedule over the next ten days with the Adams County Fair Demo Derby on tap for Wednesday, August 3, the USMTS Modifieds on Friday, August 5, T-N-T Harley Hog Night on Sunday, August 7 and the first appearance at Quincy for the Northern All Star Series Late Models on Wednesday, August 10 in a $2500 to Win, $300 to start event, the first stop of the Midwest Speed Week for the series.
