Bardstown, KY-August 13- Josh Lucas of Bardstown, KY led all 25 laps in laying claim to the 5th Annual Bluegrass Rumble at Bluegrass Speedway on Saturday night. The event was sanctioned by the NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified Series and was also the first "BoB Mod Squad" victory for Lucas, who in the process picked up his fifth win of the season at the Nelson County ½ mile dirt oval and his third in a row.
The initial start of the 25 lap Rattliff Motors A-Main 5th Annual Bluegrass Rumble saw the caution flag wave as Dion Benningfield would spin his entry in turn two. The second attempted start would go green and Lucas would take the lead, with Jason Wheatley, Justin Rattliff, Mike Watson, and Kelly Warren in tow. Caution would wave again on lap 2 and Benningfield and Joey Jones would tangle in turn two. The Delaware double-file restart would see Lucas keep the lead, with Rattliff going to second, while Don Adams would pressure Watson for fifth. Adams would grab the fifth slot on lap 3, while Warren challenged Wheatley for third. Warren would grab the third spot on lap 4, but the action would be red flagged one round later as Watson spun wickedly off the race surface out of the track in turn three and would be done for the night. Back underway, Lucas would continue to show the way, while Freddy Garmon began to flex his muscle and move into the top on lap 6, only to be immediately challenged for the position by 15th starting Joey Kramer, with Kramer squeezing by Garmon for fifth on lap 8. Kramer would then set his sights on Adams for fourth on lap 9. Garmon would join this pair to make it a three way dance for fourth on lap 10 and Garmon would regain fifth on lap 11. Meanwhile, Lucas was pulling away from the field, putting around 12 car lengths on runner-up Rattliff by the halfway mark. Garmon and Kramer resumed their side by side battle for fifth on lap 15. Adams would challenge Warren for third on lap 17, and lap 18 would see Warren and Adams side by side for third, while Garmon and Kramer battled wheel to wheel for fifth. Lucas continued to maintain his lead, working the bottom side of the racing surface and would work into slower traffic as the field got the two lap to go signal. Lucas would see the checkered flag first in the Gerald, Rita, and Jenna Lucas owned Lucas Oil Products/The Car Pool/ Family Chiropractic/Riggs Electric/On Time Courier/K and N Performance Engineering/Betty Seng Insurance/Quick Fuel Concepts sponsored #78 Lightning Chassis, Dale Meers Race Engines powered mount. Rattliff would take runner-up honors, with Warren, Adams, and Garmon completing the top five. The remainder of the top ten would be Kramer, Wheatley, Joe Mattingly, Clint Shutts, and Adam Cole.
Twenty-six NARA Battle of the Bluegrass Modified entries saw Justin Rattliff be the Racing Optics Fast Qualifier with a 17.729 second lap. VP Racing Fuels Makin' Power Heat wins went to Jason Wheatley, Josh Lucas, and Kelly Warren. Elliott Despain scored his first career checkered flag by winning the PBM Performance Products/Dale Meers Race Engines B-Main. Shon Flanery was the series provisional starter, while Randy Turpin was the track provisional.
