The Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series is in the midst of a three week break from racing competition as the series readies for a busy remaining schedule starting back again on August 27 at the Bluegrass Speedway in Bardstown, KY. With 25 events in the record books the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series has been very competitive with 15 different winners in those 25 events.
Don O'Neal of Martinsville, IN continues to lead the point’s standings but his points lead has shrunk in the last few races to where he now holds only a 150 point lead over second place driver, Earl Pearson, Jr. of Jacksonville, FL. Last month O'Neal looked to have an insurmountable lead of well over 300 points over his nearest competitors, but that has been cut down now to where the last remaining races will all be vitally important as to who will be crowned the 2005 Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series Champion.
Matt Miller of Waterville, OH rests in third in points 215 points behind O'Neal and Donnie Moran of Dresden, OH is 225 points behind O'Neal as he sits in fourth place. O'Neal, Pearson, Miller and Moran all have a legitimate chance to capture the title in what is shaping up to be an exciting end of the season come the final shows in October.
