Bardstown, KY-August 20- The second and final Valvoline Cup Night at Bluegrass Speedway saw Audie McWilliams of Walton, KY win a time shortened Late Model main event and Robbie Settles of Bardstown, KY pick up the Street Stock feature event. Josh Lucas of Bardstown, KY made it four straight wins by scoring the Modified main event, while Danny Blackwell picked up his eighth Sportsman feature race win.
The Late Model main event would be plagued by numerous caution flags and two red flag periods that saw several cars disabled before the main event actually got underway. This race only went ten of the scheduled 25 laps due to the time limits placed on all events at the track. Audie McWilliams would be credited with the checkered flag after holding off several attempts from Johnny Wheeler to take the top spot, but Wheeler could not muster enough to make the pass as the cars were lined back up after eighth and final caution occurred with 10 lap officially scored and the 25 lap or 30 minute time limit, whichever comes first, with time expiring on the event. The win for McWilliams was his second of the season at Bluegrass as he led all the green flag lapped contested in the John Weber owned, Bert Transmissions/C and J Logistics/Horsepower Ridge sponsored #10 Rocket Chassis/Dargie Race Engines powered entry. Johnny Wheeler would take runner-up honors in the event, with Jordan Bland taking third, Joey Daniel finishing fourth, and Bryant Woodcock rounding out the top five. Positions six through ten would go to David Webb, Mike Hawley, Jerry Rutherford, Chad Smith, and Scotty Earl. Twenty five entries saw Wheeler be the SpeeDecals Vinyl Graphics fast qualifier, while McWilliams also won the dash. Heat race checkered flags fell to Watson and Bland.
Robbie Settles would win a very competitive Street Stock main event and visit Bluegrass Speedway victory lane by winning the 12 lap Street Stock feature behind the wheel of his 44 Auto Mart/Budweiser/Sandman's Sandblasting/First South Credit sponsored #58 Chevy Monte Carlo. Bill Wallace would start eighth and finish second, while Willie Edelen, Garnett Eldridge, and tenth starting Shane Litton completed the top five. The rest of the top ten would be Terry Bartley, 17th starting Avral Thompson, Daroyl Samples, Casey Bryan, and Cam Taylor. Bartley was the fast qualifier among 17 entries, while Eldridge won the dash, and Samples would win the heat.
Josh Lucas would take the lead from Mike Watson on lap 14 of the 20 lap Modified main event and hold on for his fourth straight win and sixth of the season in the Gerald, Rita, and Jenna Lucas owned, Lucas Oil Products/On Time Courier/Betty Seng Insurance/The Car Pool/Family Chiropractic/Riggs Electric/K and N Performance Engineering/Quick Fuel Concepts #78 Lightning Chassis/ Dale Meers Race Engines powered mount. Dion Benningfield would come home second, with Watson third, Freddy Garmon fourth, and Joe Mattingly fifth. Completing the top ten were Joey Jones, Randy Turpin, Keith Trimble, Jason Wheatley, who slowed with mechanical problems on the final lap while running fourth, and J.T. Ayers. Twenty entries saw heat wins scored by Watson and Benningfield.
Danny Blackwell would lead flag to flag in picking up his eighth Sportsman feature win of the season in the Sherry Blackwell owned Noel's Auto Sales/ Lotsa Cars and Trucks/D and D Towing/Powerhouse Race Cars #B1 entry. Last week's winner Bobby Mattingly would squeeze through to get second place on the final lap, with Timmy Glazer taking third, while Jimmy Bryan nipped Roger Cecil at the line for fourth. Rounding out the top ten were Pat Hagan, Johnny Cecil, Tim Donohoo, Mike Bailey, and Sam Huffer. Thirteen entries saw heat wins go to Roger Cecil and Blackwell.
