Dixon, Weber and Wood Lead I-55 Show

PEVELY, MO. (May 6) — Ed Dixon won his second late model feature of the season Saturday night at I-55 Raceway, pulling away from the field while a wild battle waged for the second spot.

Dixon took the lead from Dave Jumper on the third lap. At various times, Jumper, Chad Zobrist, Jeff Johns, Tim Ratajczyk and Mark Oller fought for second. At the stripe Ratajczyk edged Oller by inches for the runner-up spot. The third-place finish was the lowest for Oller in five nights of racing at I-55 this year.

Johns was a heat and dash winner. Ratajczyk also won a heat.

Rodney Pense became the first driver to land on his roof at I-55 Raceway in 2000, going over on the tenth lap of the late model feature. The right tires of his car rode up the front straight wall and tossed his car hard into its roof. Pense was not injured but his car's body work was destroyed.

Points leader Scott Weber swept the UMP Modified class, winning his heat and dash before running away from the field for his third feature victory of the season. Dean Hoffman and Ray Wagner were second and third in the main event.

Rich Whaley won the semi-feature for the modifieds. Leroy Haney and John Seets Sr. also won modified heats.

In the dash, Seets Sr. and John Seets Jr. started side by side in the second row. Junior finished second while his father was third, giving the son his first career finish ahead of dad. The two dropped out of the feature with mechanical problems while contending for the lead, Senior while running third and Junior while running second a few laps later.

Doug Wood notched his second feature victory of the season by holding off Paul Belken Jr. in a hard-fought sportsman feature. Dennis Wernle finished third and points leader Scott Stuppy recovered from the 21st starting position to come in fourth.

Belken earlier won the dash and his heat. Wernle and Brian Worley won the other sportsman heats and Mike Harvey claimed the semi-feature.

In the cruiser cars Paul Bauman and Gary Klein won the heat but finished second to Billy Klein and Phil Grifford in the feature. Don Eaton and Dwight Bradley were third.

Saturday night's program was completed just minutes before heavy rains hit the track.
