Pontoon Beach, IL (September 27, 2008) A great field of some of the best crate late model drivers in the Midwest along with a few of the area's top super late model drivers were on hand for the 1st Annual UMP DIRTcar Pro Late Model Championships. Tri-City Speedway UMP Pro Late Model track champion Bobby Dauderman of Alhambra, IL capped off a spectacular 2008 racing season by taking his thirteenth feature win at Tri-City Speedway this year. However, it Tri-City Speedway 2008 Super Late Model Champion Billy Faust that simply dominated the night's action until he got together with a lapped car with just two laps remaining in the forty lap main event.
Faust started the night off by setting a new track record for crate late models during qualifying, then he dominated his heat race and the King of the Hill Dash. Faust started on the pole for the main event and took the lead at the drop of the green flag. Dauderman gave chase and kept within striking distance of Faust for the first twenty-five laps. However, as the two got into heavy lapped traffic, Faust pulled away as he opened up nearly a half track lead in the closing laps as he lapped all but the top six cars. However, Faust drove into turns three and four too hard on lap thirty-eight and his car wouldn't stick around the bottom and drove into the side of the lapped car of Shannon Kuhn very hard, sending Kuhn spinning and breaking the right front suspension on his own car. A disappointed Faust would have to go off the track on a wrecker turning the lead over to Dauderman. Dauderman would cruise onto victory on the restart.

Mark Oller, Ed Dixon and Clay Baumann had a spectacular battle for the third, fourth and fifth spots throughout almost the entire forty lap event. The three swapped those positions around lap after lap and after Faust's problems, Oller would finish second with Dixon taking third and Baumann fourth. Casey Montague would complete the top five.

A big crash happened on the front stretch as the middle of the pack came down for the checkered flag. Kevin Hardin got into Nick Lyons sending Lyons spinning down the middle of the front stretch collecting many race cars in melee.

UMP Pro Late Model National Champion Tait Davenport had a difficult night that started off bad when he nearly spun in qualifying and turned in the slowest lap of the thirty-seven cars on hand. Davenport's problem got worse as he got into the wall in turn one on the opening lap of his heat race and would have to go off the track behind a wrecker. Davenport would fail to earn a transfer spot in the B-Main but started twenty-fifth in the main event with a UMP point provisional. Davenport would finish fifteenth in the main event and earn the STLRacing.com Hard Charger Award for moving up the most positions from where he started.

Bobby Regot III of St. Peters, MO won his first ever UMP Modified feature event and he did it in spectacular fashion. Regot started back in the ninth starting spot and battled his way to the front as he passed car after car working his way to the front. Regot made a pass for the lead on Mike Harrison on lap fifteen, however the caution flag would wave which put Harrison back out front on the restart. Regot wasn't done though and continued to work the low side after the restart and completed the pass on Harrison with just two laps remaining and went on to victory. Regot was over-joyed in victory lane and Harrison was the first to congratulate him on his victory. Dean Hoffman would finish third behind Harrison with Tommie Seets, Jr. taking fourth and Brandon Lennox fifth.
