Darren Hagen completed a sweep of the three-day DuPont Gold Crown Midget Nationals winning Saturday night’s 50-lap POWRi/USAC National co-sanctioned event at Tri-City Speedway. Hagen stayed near the front of the field for the entire race, leading only the final two circuits around the 3/8-mile high banked clay oval. Hagen passed Brad Kuhn for the lead on Lap 48, becoming the fourth different driver to lead the event. The event saw six different lead changes.

Hagen collected $15,000 for the victory the sport’s largest winners share of the season, pushing his three-day total to $18,000 in winnings driving the RFMS Racing owned Spike/Ford-Esslinger#3. Kuhn who led 34 laps of the event placed second followed by Bryan Clauson, Jerry Coons Jr., and Bobby East completed the top five. Brad Loyet finished seventh wrapping up the POWRi Drivers Championship and Car Owners Championship for Loyet Motorsports, with one race remaining.

The POWRi season for the National Midgets and 600 cc Outlaw Micro Sprints concludes on Oct. 9 with the running of the Meents Memorial at Belle-Claire Speedway (Belleville, Ill.). Andrew Felker and Jeremy Camp will finish-off their intense season-long battle for the 600 Drivers Championship.
