POWRiDaniel Adler likes the idea of having more room to race when the POWRi Lucas Oil National Midget Series visits Jacksonville (Ill.) Speedway on Friday (April 22) night.

“I’m just excited to get back out there racing with a little more room,” Adler explained. “The last three races I’ve run have been indoors and it will be nice to have some room to race.”

Adler, of Columbia, Ill., finished seventh on Jacksonville’s 1/4-mile track last season.

“When I first started running there, I had some tough luck, but lately have been running better,” Adler said. “We’ve been getting some top-10s and knocking on the door of top-fives. They do a good job preparing the track and you can run the top and the bottom. You have some options. You’ve got to be aggressive to race there.”

The POWRi Midgets move on to Macon (Ill.) Speedway on Saturday (April 23). Adler finished third at the 1/5-mile track in the series’ stop last July.

“I’m looking forward to Macon,” Adler said. “The last time we were there, we finished third. It’s another one of those tight tracks, but it’s a lot of fun to race.”

Adler, who will graduate from the University of Missouri in St. Louis in May, has finished sixth in the POWRi Midget championship the past two years. He’s in his third season driving for car owner Ed Kirkpatrick.

“The racing in POWRi is second to none,” Adler said. “The competition is definitely stiff. We talk to a lot of USAC teams and they’re very impressed with the level of competition.”

Adler had a rough start to the POWRi season, failing to make the feature in the season opener at the Southern Illinois Center’s indoor Mini Magic Mile in Du Quoin.

“I got knocked out in the heat and started pretty far back in the B main and didn’t transfer,” Adler said.

Jacksonville and Macon are the second and third, respectively, races on the POWRi National Midgets schedule. Tony Roney, of Herculaneum, Mo., won his first race in the series at Du Quoin. Roney is not running for the championship and not eligible for points. Nick Knepper, of Belleville, Ill., finished second to Roney and leads Tim Siner, of Dupo, Ill., 190-180.

The events at Jacksonville and Macon also feature the POWRi Speedway Motors 600cc Micro Series. Ryan Langton, of Greenfield, Ind., won the season opener and leads the points over Dereck King, of Vienna, Ill., 200-190. Devon Piper, of Springfield, Ill., was third at Du Quoin and is third in the points with 180.
