Stake Celebrates Birthday Win In Wild Midway Mod Finish

Lebanon MidwayLebanon,Mo.-Defending Midway Aaron’s B-Mod champion and current point leader Michael Stake found himself in the right place at the right time Friday Night as he took advantage of a lap 18 caution and rode the top cushion and then held off a strong charge by opening night winner Shawn Strong in taking his first win of the 2011 season in a race that featured 3 wide racing and a dramatic finish.

The field was brought to the green flag by Brian Webster and Tommy McBride while Stake and Mike Striegel started in row 2.

Webster jumped to the early lead with McBride,Stake,Striegel and Charlie Gentile all racing side by side.On lap 4,Striegel placed himself into second place and pulled even with Webster on the low groove while Kris Jackson came charging from row 4 to challange.2 wide racing was the call as Jackson moved into challange.On lap 6,Gentile’s good run went sour as he pulled into the pits with problems.Caution waved on lap 7 as the field prepared for the double-file restart.At the drop of the green,Webster on the top groove and Striegle on the bottom went wheel to wheel with Jackson making it 3 wide and opening ngiht winner Shawn Strong came charging from 11th.On lap 9 Striegel took the lead only to see Webster get it back on lap 10.Tyler Brown was moving forward and into a possible top 5 as the fans were seeing 2-3 wide racing.On lap 13,Striegel took the lead as Webster stayed glued to the top lane as Jackson,Strong and Stake were back and forth.On lap 17,caution waved as Bill Schaar slowed with problems.While getting lined up for the restart,Webster’s car jumped out of gear and came to a halt in turn 1 as Jackson had no time to react and the duo made contact ending both strong runs.With Striegel leading and Shawn Strong who was trying for his 3rd straight Southwest Missouri Modified win were 1 and 2,Stake quietly slide into third.On the restart,Stake placed the car on the very top groove and shot around both leader Striegel and Strong.Caution flew on lap 19 setting up a 1 lap shootout.Stake would hold off the last lap efforts by Strong to grab the win while Strong,Striegel,Tyler Brown and JC Newell rounded the top 5.

In Central Bank FactoryStock action,Burl Woods grabbed the opening lap lead over Josh Franklin as point leader James Flood moved to the top lane around Donnie Miller.Flood and teammate Woods went side by side until lap 3 when Flood started to pull away as action for second place was tight including woods,Franklin,Donnie Miller,David Hendrix and last weeks winner Sundance Keepper.Caution waved on lap 8 as Mark Davis came to a halt with problems and defending champion Tyson Troutman pulled to the infield with problems.On the restart,Miller  had last weeks winner Sundance Keepper on his heels as the duo went side by side as Flood pulled away again in the top spot.Miller slowed off the pace on lap 11 with a flat tire as Keeper started to close in on Flood.Flood would grab the win with Keepper,Woods,Franklin and Hendrix completing the top 5.

The Energy Company PureStocks saw a another new winner in 3 weeks of racing as Monk Barker took advantage of leader Shorty Doublins flat tire on lap 6 and held off a last lap challange from Matt Young and Brandon Henderson to take his first ever feature win in a race were problems hit everyone.Henderson of Lebanon making his first ever race start came home a solid runner-up as Young and Chad Hufft and Kolt Barker rounded out the top 5.

The Rocky Ridge Construction Midwest Modz saw current point leader and defending champion Little JC Newell take the opening lead over points runner-up Rich Reynolds and lead all 15 laps of the feature in taking his second win of the season.Bill Joiner drove to a solid third place finish while Robert Staats made his first start in the class fourth and youngster Ryan Hendrix completed the top 5.

Another new winner to the Transport Graphics StreetStock division as points runner-up Brandon Waters took advantage of a double-file restart on lap 6 to grab the lead over Trevor ellingson and drove away to take the win with current point leader and defending champion Joe Francis in a race that feature tight racing action until Waters took the lead.Tevor ellingson grabbed the opening lead at the start as Billy Waters moved to the inside lane.Billy took the lead onl ap 2 until Ellingson moved back in the lead on lap 5.The caution waved as Rodney Yost slowed with problems and Waters went to the pits with a flat tire.Brandon Waters then hung on the outside lane after the double-file restart and never looked back.Francis,former track champion Brandon Knudtson,Ellingson and Billy Waters completed the top 5.

Action continues next Friday Night as the Speedway will hold an on track autograph session at intermission as the fans get to go track side and meet the drivers.Gates open at 5 with hotlaps at 7:05 and racing at 8PM.
