Springfield,Mo.-After 2 weeks of action packed dirttrack racing action,the stove is going to get even hotter Sat Night May 14th at the SpringfieldRaceway with the running of the John Kuntz Memorial presented by Andy’s Frozen Custard as the first of two scheduled MARS/MLRA Series LateModel Races invade the Quick-Quarter.
A big supporter of racing,Andy’s Frozen Custard Founder John Kuntz is honored with the runnnig of this event in his hometown.Action will not only feature the MARS/MLRA Series but also the Transport Graphics Championship Chase with points races for the Budweiser RHS USRA Modifieds,Reliable Chevrolet SportMods,Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modz, and Missouri Legends.
Defending event winner and defending MARS Champion Terry Phillips of Springfield will head up a star-studded field of LateModels including defending MLRA Champion Al”The Shark”Purkey of Coffeyville,Kansas,2-time event winner Jeremy Payne of Springfield,last season’s MLRA points runner-up and current MARS point leader Brad Looney of Republic,Current MLRA point leader and area Modified ace Jesse”The Undertaker”Stovall of Galena,Lebanon,Missouri drivers Tony Jackson Jr and Brandon “B-Mac” McCormick,Nebraska Kingpin Kyle Berek,Arizona hotshoe RC Whitwell,Former MLRA Champion Alan Vaughn,John Anderson of Omaha,Neb.Modified area standout Jason Pursley of Wheatland,David Turner of Creighton,Darrell Mooneyham and Shane Essary of Aurora and many more.
Pitgates open at 3PM with the Grandstand Gates opening at 5PM.Local division drivers meeting at 5:50 and hotlaps at 6:15.Racing will start at 7PM for the first big special of the season at the SpringfieldRaceway.
In support action current point leader Jackie Dalton of Carthage will be attempting to go for 3 in a row in the USRA modified division.Dalton barley defeated Terry Beckham II last week in another action packed A Mod feature.Defending track champion Mitch Keeter holds down the second place spot in the points while Erik Maggard,Jody Tillman and Terry Beckham round out the top 5.
Defending SportMod  champion Wayne Graybeal of Springfield has a slim 2 point lead over Kaleb Copher(Webb City) while Mike Hailman(Reed Springs),Gary Rodocker(Willard) and JC Morton(Springfield) complete the top 5.
Park Jones of Joplin heads up the exciting Legend division with a 4 point lead over last weeks winner Dave Comer.Springfield’s Jay Reynolds,Jason Rayle of Springfield and Wayne Johnston of Springfield complete the top 5.
4th Generation driver Trevor Drake of Webb City will be looknig for his third straight feature win in the Midwest Modz and holds a 7 point lead over veteran Randy Belk of Joplin.Niangua’s Sam Petty,Ozark’s Rusty Forrest and Springfield’s Shane Bias complete the top 5 in this ever growing class of cars
