Springfield RacewaySpringfield,Mo.-After 2 weeks off,the Transport Graphics Championship chase picked-up steam Sat night at the Quick-quarter of the Springfield Raceway with another exciting night of close finishes and new winners as Oronogo’s Bobby Pearish withstood a late caution and held off a last lap challange by Terry Beckham II to grab his first ever USRA Modified feature Sat night as over 90 teams checked into the pits.

The Budweiser RHS USRA Mod event rolled out with Kyle Slagle and female driver Kaelie Archer on the front row.Slagle grabbed the opening lead as Brian Green found the top groove fast as he shot to the outside from his 6th starting spot with Pearish in tow. After 1 lap completed, caution flew as rookie Nathan Cottrell, defending champion Mitch Keeter and young-gun Jordan McCrimmon all went around in turn 1.Green had mis-fortune as a flat tire sent him to the pits.On the restart,Pearish got a great jump and took over the top spot as Erik Maggard along with Billy Dalton moved to challange Slagle for second. With 3 wide racing throughout the pack,Pearish pulled away as Maggard took over second place. On lap 6,Beckham known as “Mr Excitement” in Missouri had moved into the top 5.By lap 15,Beckham and Maggard were door to door battling while Pearish who suffered a heartbreaking loss to Johnny Scott 2 weeks ago was glued to the middle lane.On lap 17,Beckham moved into second around Maggard while 4 time champion Jackie Dalton came to life moving around Maggard. On lap 18 caution flew bunching the field-up.With Pearish out in front,Beckham picked the top groove on the double-file restart with Dalton going to the inside as Keeter had charged back to contend along with Jody Tillman who had suffered a hard crash during the heat race.As Pearish brought the field to the restart,Beckham rode the top groove and was looking for his first win of the season while Dalton was fishing downstairs. As the leaders took the white flag,Pearish moved to the middle lane as Beckham swung outside heading to the lead fast.Pearish was able to hold off the charge for the victory while Beckham,Dalton,Keeter and Maggard completed the top 5.

The Reliable Chevrolet SportMods again provied an excellent feature as the starting field of 20 were paced by Wes Long and Terry Beckham Sr. Long took the early lead, but Andy Beauchamp seems to be turning his luck around as he took control with Beckham Sr,Ron McClellan and JC Morton followed with 3 wide racing. The action ws tight all over as Beauchamp and Long went back and forth for the top spot.On lap 6,point leader Bobby Maggard Jr found the top groove fast for his car as we moved into the top 5 from his 10th starting spot. With 3 wide racing,Maggard made a high groove pass on lap 10 to take the lead with Beauchamp following along with GM Crate racers McClellan and Morton following. The caution waved on lap 13 as Mcclellan,Mike Hailman, defending champion Wayne Graybeal and John Gardner all got together in turn 3 ending Graybeal’s night. On the restart,Maggard kept his Pro-Line Automotive car glued to the top lane as Morton started his forward movement and Gary Rodocker was moving forward with Beauchamp a solid second. The caution waved on lap 18 as last years Midwest Modz champion Kaleb Copher spun bunching up the field .Beauchamp picked the low groove on the double-file restart with Morton in his new Reliable GM 602 Crate motor on the top groove.Maggard the former Factorystock area front runner-got another strong jump and held on to take his second win of the season with morton,Beauchamp,Long and a fast moving Rodocker in the top 5 as 16 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap.The timing was perfect for Maggard as coming to the winners circle they found debris laying on top of the Carburetor.

The Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modz class has grown in not only numbers but quality racing as the field of 16 took the Green flag with Joplin’s Bobby Gough grabbing the lead with Rusty adams following.Gary Krebs moved into second place on lap 3 and gave chase  until lap 5 when he jumped the cushion. With gough looking for his first win of the season,Florida driver Aaron Barsness had moved from 12th starting spot to challange gough for the lead.Barsness in Ken Walker’s car was in town as Incredible Pizza sponsors the driver in his Homestate of Florida.Back behind the top duo were point leader Trevor Drake,a fast moving Rusty Forrest and Ryan Hendrix.Gough looped the car in turn 3 on lap 8 putting Barsness in the lead with Forrest and Drake applying pressure. After a couple of more cautions,Barsness would find a last lap shootout with Forrest and Drake but held off the challanges as Drake,Forrest,Sam Petty and Krebs recoverd to the top 5.

The Wheeler Metals PureStocks are growing in number also and Springfield’s James Redus who arrived late started at the rear of the field and grabbed the lead on lap 6 from then leader Chris Woodruff to take his second win of the season.3 wide action followed behind as Elijah Keepper,Wayne Morris ,Jack Hamer and Woodruff completed the top 5 in an action packed 12 lap feature that only had 1 caution.

The Missouri LegendCars saw wild action tonight as Brian boucher took the opening lead only to spin on lap 1.This put Rick Nichols in the lead until Dave Bauer grabbed the lead on lap 3.With several laps of side by side action,Dave Comer took over on lap 5 and withstood several challanges from defending champion Justin Comer to take the win with point leader Park Jones,Rolla’s Wayne Johnston and Colt Preunte completing the top 5.Points runner-up Jay Reynolds recovered from a spin and rallied back to salvage a 6th place finish as Nichols ended up crossing the finish line in a rollover after contact while racing for position.

Pepsi StreetStock Action saw an excellent race with a short field of cars.Tim Petty grabbed the opening lead for 2 laps as point leader Bryan Tillman pulled even with Petty. On lap 3,Tillman moved to the outside groove and took the lead only to see Petty pull even on the inside lane.Side by side they battled with Tillman holding off Petty at the line for his third win of the season with Petty,Dan wood,Chuck Becker and Matthew Bowen completing the top 5.

While figures were not final yet it is estimated that the Speedway helped raised over $600 plus for the Joplin Humane Society

Action continues next Sat June 11th as the Power I Midget and 600 Winged Micro Series rolls into the Speedway for its only scheduled apperance of the season along with with points races for the SportMods,Midwest Modz,PureStocks and Legends.
