Erik Maggard Rim-Rides To Springfield Raceway USRA Mod Feature In Late Pass. Brandon Maggard Puts Reliable GM Crate Motor In SportMods

Springfield RacewaySpringfield,Mo.-The action was again fast and furious Sat night at the Quick-Quarter of the Springfield Raceway as the Transport Graphics Chase for the Championship is in full swing as over 90 plus raceteams checked into the pits tonight with several first time 2011 winners.

The Budweiser RHS USRA Modifieds provided plenty of side by side action as the starting field of 18 took the opening Green.Kyle Slagle shot to the lead while John Yeoman III,Robbie Bryant,Bobby Pearish,Erik Maggard and Mitch Keeter wasted no time in side by side action.The first yellow waved on lap 3 as Rookie Nick Whitehead pulled high in turn 4 with a flat tire.With slagle bringing the field to the Double-file restart,the battle pace picked up as Jody Tillman and Terry Beckham II joined the action.Slagle was setting a fast pace using the middle of the track while Erik Maggard found the high-groove and began to close-up ground while Pearish began a charge to the front pack also.On lap 11,defending champion Mitch Keeter’s night ended as pulled to the infield with problems while Slagle was fending off Maggard’s repeated charges while 2-3 wide action was the norm tonight among all those behind.On lap 13,caution waved as Jesse Stovall rode over the banking in turn 3 bunching the field-up.With Slagle looking for his first win and leading,the field doubled-up with Maggard picking the top groove on the restart while Pearish,Yeoman III,Tillma,Beckham,4 time champion Jackie Dalton,Robbie Bryant and veteran Terry Kirk swapping spots.On the restart,Maggard swung high and took over the lead on lap 14 while rim-riding the top groove as Slagle kept in the middle lane followed closely by Pearish,Dalton,Tillman,Beckham II,Kirk and Bryant who is also a rookie in USRA Modified competition.Out in front,Maggard would claim his first win of the 2011 season while action drama opened-up on the last lap.Slagle went up the track on the last lap in turn 3 allowing Dalton to stick the car hard and down low going for the runner-up spot.Side by side went Slagle and Dalton as Pearish was riding the top groove also.Contact was made sending Pearish around as Dalton nipped slagle at the stripe for second place honors while Slagle,Yeoman III, and Tillman complete the top 5 followed closely by Beckham II,Kirk,Bryant,Darrell Jackson and Eric Lampe in the top 10.Maggard became the 4th different winner this season in 5 features for the USRA Modifieds.

The Reliable Chevrolet SportMods rolled out for the 20 lap feature with threating skies heading to the racetrack as 19 cars went 20 lap caution free with side by side racing all night long.7 of the 19 starters were powered by a Reliable Chevrolet GM 602 Crate motor as Brandon Maggard and Larry Tindle brought the field to the green flag.Andy Beauchamp wasted no time in putting his car to the low groove as Brandon Maggard found the top groove to his liking.Kris Jackson,Point leader Bobby Maggard Jr along with points runner-up JC Morotn were swapping spots each lap as Scott Drake was coming form row 6 along with Andrew Smith.This side by side race for the lead stayed close until Brandon Maggard found a little more bit up high on lap 15 and began to open up a 4 car length lead while Morton,Maggard Jr,Tindle, Smith,Jackson and Drake were swapping spots.It was Maggard’s 1st win of the season after a rough start to the season.Maggard was also the top finishing GM 602 Crate Motor and recieved extra money from the GM program and extra money for having bought his Crate Motor from Springfield’s Reliable Chevrolet.Following Maggard to the stripe was Beauchamp,Morton,Maggard Jr and veteran Scott Drake as 17 of the 19 starters finished on the lead lap.Maggard was the 5th different winner out of 6 races in the SportMods.

The Missouri Legends took the green flag with 20 starters and 4 wide action was the call at the start.Colt Pruente came away with the opening lead from his 4th place starting spot riding the top groove early.Pruente was looking for his first win of the season and would find former champion Jason Rayle,last weeks winner Wayne Johnston,defending champion Justin Comer,point leader Park Jones,Dave Comer,Billy Cottrill and Tyler Horton 3 wide.Tyler Horton’s night ended early as Preunte was setting a quick-pace.On lap 8,point leader Park Jones jumped the cushion in turn 2,but recovered while loosing several spots.Up front Preunte was holding off Rayle and Justin Comer as Dave Comer was coming quickly.After starting 12 in the feature,SportMod front runner Mike Hailman driving his father’s car quietly worked his way into the top 5 by lap 11 as Justin Comer moved to the lead.On lap 15,Hailman went to the top spot and recorded his first ever Legends win in his first Legends ride.Early pacesetter Preunte followed in the runner-up spot with Wayne johnston,Justin Comer and Rayle following.15 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap and Hailman became the 5th different winner in 6 races.

The Casey’s General Store’s Midwest Modz saw 20 starters take the Green flag with Shawn Eggeman grab the opening lead.On lap 3 a wreck in turn 1 eliminated Rusty Forrest,Todd McGregor,Bobby Gough and sent Gary Krebs to the pits with Krebs returning.Eggeman would lead the field on the restart with Monte Padgett,Shane Bias,and Phil Harris in contention.On lap 5,Harris took the lead as Padgett quietly worked the leader for position.On lap 10,Padgett grabbed the lead while point leader Trevor Drake and veteran Randy Belk were applying pressure.The battle for second place was tight between Belk and Drake allowing Padgett to grab his first win of the season while Belk nipped Drake at the line for the runner-up spot with early leader Harris and Sam Petty completing the top 5.Padgett became the 5th different winner out of 6 races for the Midwest Modz this season.

James Redus came roaring from the back part of the field in the Wheeler Metals PureStocks on lap 7 of the 12 lap feature to overtake early contenders Jeremy Thulin and Ken Scott to record his 3rd win of the season while Thulin,Scott,Wayne Morris and Young Doug Testerman rounded out the top 5 in a race that only saw 1 caution flag.

Bryan Tillman kept his winning streak in line by getting around early leader Tim Petty in the Pepst StreetStock feature event.Tillman has recorded 4 wins in this class and has 1 win in the PureStock class also.Petty,Bill Schoen,Dan Wood and Brandon Waters completed the top 5.

Action continues Next Sat night with Scout night at the races.All Cub Scout,Boy Scout and Girl Scouts in uniform recieve Free Grandstand Admission while action will feature the USRA A-Mods,Reliable Chevrolet SportMods,Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modz,Missouri Legends,Wheeler Metals PureStocks and Pepsi-StreetStocks with Racing at 7PM.
