SFCR - St. Francois County RacewayFarmington, MO (June 18) – On this Saturday Night at St Francois County Raceway another familiar name graced the winners Circle. Joey Montgomery, Fredericktown, Mo picks up the win in Midwest Open Wheel Association Sprint feature. The many time Champion, who has a lot of blank space on his race car, qualified 6th in a field of 22 sprints. He the won his heat and finished second in the dash for his outside front row starting position. Our featured sponsor of the night, Bulk Tank Service of Park Hills, found a great track and super competition. When the green flag waved for the start of the 30-Lap main event, Robbie Standridge, Springfield, IL, got the jump on Montgomery as they headed into turn one. Montgomery, brother Tim Montgomery, and Jerrod Hull, Sikeston, MO place a lot of distance between themselves and the field. Red Flag conditions appeared for Brett Sammonds, Glen Arm, IL, as he rolled his mount in turn 3. He would walk away from the accident under his own power. His car was demolished and he was done for the night. On the restart Standridge again took off with Tim Montgomery in hot pursuit. Tim would gain the lead on Lap 9. Lap 10 found the yellow in the air for A J Bruns, and Rod Crabdree as the tangle din turn one. Bruns had a flat tire and was unable to continue. Tim Montgomery continued to lead for the next few laps only to see his brother Joey racing on the top side. These two put on a great show for the fans as the exchanged the lead several time during the remainder of the event. Working traffic late in the race, Tim did a 360 in turn one kept the car going and only lost three positions. This allowed Jerrod Hull to track down Joey and take a shot at the win. Going down the back straight on the white flag lap, Hull closed up very tight. They came off four and Joey Montgomery collected his first win of the season. Hull settled for runner-up honors. Polesitter Robbie Standridge hung around long enough for a third place run followed by current SFCR points leader and 2010 Champiom Jimmy Hurley. Tim Montgomery, after his late race spin still collect a top five finish in fifth place.

After a week off chasing his boss around the country racing, Billy Smith brought it home for the win his third of the season. In usual fashion Smith and Brent Thompson started on the front row. As they headed into the first turn, Kent Nations and Matt Eaton were right there. Four laps into the event Matt Dotson brought out the caution for a spin. He continued and came back with a top 10 finish. Kent Nations had trouble getting started on the restarts and eventually fell out of competition. Somewhere during the event, Thompson broke a tie rod end on his car. He manhandled to car for the remainder of the event and finished in third spot. Mike Abney, Viburnum, MO had one of his best runs in the modified as he finished in the runner-up spot. As the laps ran out Abney was unable to catch Smith. We mention Thompson finished third. A good run also was posted by 2010 Rookie of the Year in the Modifieds, Chris Hayes. Hayes started outside of row five and finished fourth. This is his best finish to date. Matt Eaton had issues in the event but came on strong and held on for a fifth place run.

The B-Modified Division came out strong. Michael Savage, Annapolis, MO took control early over John Bohn and never looked back. Savage jumped out to the front with Bohn, Kyle Stolzer, Eddie Gross and Kenny Harris in line. The only change at the finish was Gross fell out of the top five and was replaced by Chris Boyd. Only two cautions came out for the spinning cars of Patrick DeNoyer and Mark Dickerson.

Pure Street Division had some excitement in there feature and Jimmy Farris, Mineral Point, MO was attempting to make it two in a row. Farris took the lead with Kasey Nations in close pursuit. Charlie Savage, Ronnie Sweeney and Jason Neel in the next group. Kenny Kennedy had more bad luck as he was making a run for the front only to have his tire go flat and put him out. Once restarted Farris and Nations began to run away. They encountered slower traffic in the closing laps. Farris chose the bottom for his run and Nations a little higher on the track. The duo along with Mike Willaims, Jr and an unidentified car made it four wide in turn four. Farris got shuffled back to second and nations went on for the win. Charlie Savage also got by Farris for the runner up spot. Fourth place went to Robbie Williams and Tim Nash completes the top five. In the winners circle Nations thanked Chris Boyd for allowing the chance to drive the car.

Racing will continue next Saturday as the Winged 410 Sprints will be racing for $2000 to win. Grandstands and Pit Areas open at 4:00. Hot Laps at 6:00 and racing to follow. Check out our website for further information. Www.sfcr-online.com
