Pontoon Beach, IL (June 24th, 2011) After pole sitter Kelby Simmons spun on the opening lap forcing a complete restart and allowing Mike Harrison to move up to the front row pole on the restart, everything was setup for Harrison to claim his second straight DIRTcar Summit Racing Equipment Modified Nationals event. Harrison took command at the drop of the green flag and led the entire event. Although Harrison’s lead was only a couple of car lengths throughout the event, he was never seriously challenged for the top spot. Jeff Curl, who ran second the entire event, had his hands full for all thirty laps as Bobby Regot III hounded him for the second spot lap after lap. Meanwhile, cars that started deep in the field were charging to the front. Tim Hancock would get all the way up to fourth and challenge Regot and Curl for second and third in the closing laps. Michael Long would get up to fifth about half way through the feature event and then seem to fade 3/4 of the way through the feature, only to rebound in the final three laps as he went to the high side and shot past Hancock and Regot on the final lap to get third behind Curl. Regot would hold on to fourth at the finish with Hancock rounding out the top five. John DeMoss, Ray Walsh and Rusty Griffaw all came from near the back to finish sixth through eighth.
