(Warrensburg) The 2011 season rolled on at Central Missouri Speedway (CMS) Saturday night for 98.5 FM The Bar night at the races and when the last checkered flag fell, defending modified track champion Jason Thompson found his way to victory lane in a stacked field of modified drivers to claim his second feature win of the season. Jason Bodenhamer padded his track point’s lead in the ULMA late models with his third triumph of the season. ‘Jammin’ Jimmy Morris of Blue Springs, Missouri brought home his fourth street stock triumph of the year with Brad Smith of Belton ending Jacob Ebert’s streak of B-modified wins by claiming his first victory of the season at CMS.

Brooks Automotive B-modified heat race wins went to Nic Bennett, Lucas Isaacs, and Smith to set the stage for the 15-lap feature event and it was Bennett who claimed the pole position with Isaacs to his outside. Smith quickly shot to the front of the pack at the start of the race with Isaacs and Bennett left to do battle for second place. Two quick caution periods slowed the start of the race but with each ensuing re-start, last year’s b-modified champion driver, Brad Smith, asserted himself as the man to beat on this night. Isaacs and Bennett tried hard to find a fast line around the track but Smith had this one covered from the onset. Six-time feature winner Jacob Ebert made things interesting just past half way from his eighth starting spot as he made his way up into the top five. On lap 13, a near disastrous incident brought out the red flag as Gary Fain, A.J. Tice, and Larry Mayhew were involved in a tangle entering turn one. Fain’s car received a significant amount of damage as a result of getting air born and nearly flipping before coming to rest on Tice’s car. Fain and Mayhew were of the event but Tice was able to continue. At the line Smith took the win ahead of Ebert, Lucas Isaacs, Bennett, Jason Billups, and Trent Deadmon.

The street stock car count was down this week but the quality of drivers on hand still provided the faithful fans with some exciting racing. Nate Barnes and Jimmy Morris drove to victories in the Expressways Food Shop and Eickleberry Concrete heat races early in the program. Starting from the outside pole, Morris set forth on a quest to take his fourth feature win of the season. Current point’s leader Brian Ziegler was a consistent top three runner throughout the race distance but could not put together a strong enough run on Morris for the lead. Michael Mullins, Chad Eickleberry, Herb Dannar, and Barnes raced hard inside the top five. When the laps wound down, it was Morris who claimed his fourth feature event of the season with Ziegler a close second. Michael Mullins and Barnes got together on the front stretch coming for the checkered flag with Mullins edging him out for third. Eickleberry settled in for a fifth-place finish while new Dad, T.J. Faulkenberry raced his way to sixth place in the Brooks Automotive LLC main event.

We are now just one week away from the annual track late model special, which features a $1,500 pay day for one driver Next’s week’s action is also part of the annual ULMA “Triple Crown Shootout.” For Saturday’s action, All American Auto Car and Truck Sales heat race one James McMillin took the win. Jon Binning picked up first in the B&D Transmission heat number two while Trace Westling won Bodee’s Race Bodies heat number three. In the Rod End Supply main event, after early race restarts, it was pretty much all green flag racing with Bodenhamer leading the way and Binning second. Meanwhile, Steve Clancy, Kevin Coyne, and Brett Wood had strong runs going. Later in the race, Wood slipped to sixth as Lane Ehlert made his way to the front of the running order. Ehlert’s setup on the car matched the setup of the track almost perfectly as he made his way to third. Once the drivers settled into their race rhythm, Bodenhamer walked away from the rest of the field but a great battle for second took place as Coyne took over the runner-up position from Clancy. At the finish it was Bodenhamer, Coyne, Ehlert, Clancy, Binning, and Wood inside the top six.

Like the late models, modifieds are one week away from another track special event, this one being the 8th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl. The Cornerstone Agency heat race number one went to Jason Thompson with Dustin Boney claiming the Beebe Heating & Cooling second heat race. Seeburg Muffler heat number three went to Austin Siebert. For the Dale’s Towing main event, Thompson and Siebert brought the field to the green flag during the 25-lap race with Thompson edging out to an early race lead. David Ralph’s night ended on the hook after contact with the front straightaway forced him to the pits. A few more early caution periods took place but then drivers found their groove to march their way towards the front. Although Boney and matt Johnson challenged Thompson, neither could make the pass for the win stick as Thompson began stretching out his early lead. Lap-after-lap, all eyes were on or near the front of the field, which included Aaron Marrant, Bodenhamer, and Siebert. Thompson was not to be denied on this night as he claimed his second feature win and in the process, tightened things up in the point standings. Boney had slipped back to third at one point in the race but rebounded to second at the checkered flags. Chad Lyle had an up and down race but ended on a good note in the third position with Johnson fourth, Schultz fifth, and Siebert in sixth.
