Springfield RacewaySpringfield,Mo.-Pierce City’s Brian Green has always had a fast racecar, but lady luck has never shinned on the young charger from Pierce City until Sat Night at Springfield Raceway on Scout night.

Green who took ownership of a new Modified Chassis at the start of the 2011 season took the lead from fellow Pierce City driver Kyle Slagle on lap 7 by riding the high groove and never looked back in recording his first ever Budweiser RHS USRA Modified feature win at the SpringfieldRaceway.

After starting the 20 lap feature in the 4th starting spot, Green quickly moved behind leader Slagle and kept the pressure on in the caution free feature event. Slagle set the early pace from his pole position to lead the opening 6 laps before giving way to Green. Slagle then had repeated challanges from Robbie Bryant for the runner-up position until Bryant recorded his best 2011 finish with a runner-up spot. Slagle, Jody Tillman and current point leader Jackie Dalton completing the top 5. Points runner-up Terry Beckham II was absent from the field tonight and last weeks winner Erik Maggard and defending champion Mitch Keeter both suffered motor issues. In the winners circle, Green was an excited driver and the crowd responded with a thunderous round of applause for the Springfield regular.

It was a wild night in the Reliable Chevrolet SportMod feature as Brandon Maggard grabbed the opening lead over the 21 car field with Jon Yeoman Jr. close behind along with veteran Terry Beckham Sr. While Maggard who struggled early this season was setting a fast pace, Scott Drake began his march forward after starting in row 5 and by lap 4 had moved into the runner-up spot as 2-3 wide racing was the norm. After a lap 5 restart, Brandon Maggard was finding Drake closing in while Yeoman Jr., Mike Hailman, Andy Beauchamp, Beckham Sr., JC Morton, defending champion Wayne Graybeal, Jesse Stovall, and Points leader Bob Maggard Jr. all back and forth. Unlucky Lap 13 proved to be the turning point for several drivers as Yeoman Jr., and Morton got together on the frontstretch and collected Beckham Sr., Graybeal, Stovall, Beauchamp, and  Jared Thulin. On the restart, Mike Hailman cut down a tire as the start was waved off. On the final restart, Brandon Maggard kept the high groove riding strong taking his second straight victory in his GM Reliable 602 Crate motor as the veteran Drake, Don Luna, Sean Williams, and Jerry Lankton completed the top 5.

The Casey’s General Stores Midwest Modz class came in tonight with 22 cars and provided some great action. Shane Bias grabbed the opening lead with last weeks winner Monte Padgett following. Joey Wiles starting a charge forward and moved into a top 3 spot quickly. Rookie Ryan Hendrix had everyone holding their breath as he spun on the frontstretch right in front of a big pack of cars, but no-one collected the youngster as caution waved. Bias continued to set a fast pace along with Padgett, but on lap 5 Matthew Thulin moved quietly into second place and applied pressure as Joplin veteran “Gentleman” Randy Belk moved to contend by lap 7 after starting 9th tonight. After a caution for debris, Bias slipped to the low side while leading as Thulin got on the brakes quickly. This allowed Belk to motor on the high side in turn 4 as point leader Trevor Drake followed along with Padgett, Rusty Forrest, And Gary Krebs. Belk held off Drake several times to get his first win of the season as Drake, Padgett, Krebs and Thulin completed the top 5 as 18 of the 22 starters finished on the lead lap.

The Missouri Legends again provided plenty of side-by-side racing action with lots of last lap passing. Rick Nichols jumped to the opening lead with Paul Horton following. Dave Bauer took over the lead on lap 2 and was setting a quick-pace for all as Tyler Horton pulled along side of his dad Paul to battle. On lap 5,Tyler shot to the front as point leader Park Jones came from 11th to second. On lap 7,last weeks winner Mike Hailman after starting 12th moved to the lead but 1 lap later retired with problems. Jones took over the top spot as Dave Comer quietly moved into second place at the halfway mark.

After a hard fought battle, Comer took the lead and held off repeated challanges by Jones and Tyler Horton to get the win followed closely by Jones,T Horton, Wayne Johnston, and Colt Preunte in the top 5.

Wheeler Metals Purestock action saw James Redus overtake point leader Jack Hamer on lap 3 in a 3 wide battle and take his 3rd win of the season while a fast moving Wayne Morris kept Redus honest by applying pressure the entire feature.Hamer,Philip Schloesser, and Jeremy Thulin completed an action-packed feature as this class continues to grow each week.

Bryan Tillman continued his winning ways in the StreetStock Feature with Tim Petty, and Brad Gideon following. The StreetStock class is now opened-up to Area FactoryStock rules, but no Tubular frames and no tubular Rear Suspensions allowed. This StreetStocks are back in action on July 9th.

Action continues Sat July 9th as The ASCS Winged 360 SprintCars invade the quick-quarter for their only scheduled apperance of the season as the Sooner Regional drivers go head-to-head with the Warrior Regional drivers.Action will also feature the USRA Modifieds,SportMods,Legends and PureStocks.Grandstand gates open at 5 with hotlaps at 6:15 and Racing at 7PM.
