(Warrensburg) The 8th Annual Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl takes place this weekend with special feature events highlighting the schedule. First up will be a $1,500-to-win ULMA late model 30-lap feature as part of the final night of the ULMA Triple Crown Shootout on Saturday evening, July 2. B-modifieds and street stocks will run their weekly points races and the modified drivers will begin their weekend with qualifying heat races, b-main(s) and finish with a 20-lap scramble to position drivers on the 12 inside-row starting spots for their Sunday night $5,000 to-win and $1,000 to-start 40-lap feature event.

ULMA late model drivers will be battling in the annual CMS big-money feature to cap off a week of competing for the Triple Crown title and points fund at several area tracks. As of press release time, ULMA points leader, Brett Woods, track points leader, Jason Bodenhamer, Jon Binning, Steve Clancy, Lane Ehlert, James McMillin, Kevin Coyne, Bob Test and many others plan to entertain local late model fans with exciting side-by-side racing action on the smooth clay oval in Warrensburg.

The racing action continues on Sunday night with the Tom Wilson Memorial BBQ Bowl Modified Feature topping off the evening. This special event includes another opportunity for modified drivers that did not make the show on Saturday evening to qualify for the 12 outside-row starting positions with a new program of heat races, b-mains and a 20-lap scramble event. The Sunday night show also includes the Midwest Lightning Sprints and street stocks along with a fireworks display.

You never know who will show up for the special modified feature honoring the long-time racer, promoter and CMS announcer, Tom Wilson. Recent special event winners include Dustin Boney, Terry Phillips and Jeremy Payne. These drivers along with a host of other talented drivers from the Midwest including Jason Thompson, Chad Lyle, Aaron Marrant, Jim Moody, Tim Karrick, Terry Schultz, Johnny Bone, Dean Wille, Austin Siebert, Jason Bodenhamer, Rick Beebe, and Matt Johnson are just a few of the tough competitors that have made the Tom Wilson Memorial race an exciting event each year. Several of the United States Modified Touring Series drivers have ventured into CMS during past years to compete in this show as well with Tommy Meyer, Zack VanderBeek, and Kelly Shryock being the most recent competitors. Note: mention of driver name does not guarantee appearance in this event!

The Midwest Lightning Sprints make their second appearance this season and will add an international flair this time with the U.S. debut of Australian driver, DJ Raw. The 28-year old is excited to be the first Australian to race Lightning Sprints in the U.S. after being crowned the 2011 Sydney Speedway Track Champion. Raw will race the Z8 Lightning Sprint owned by Zack Morehead. Raw commented, “I can’t thank Bobby Layne and Zack Morehead enough for the opportunity to come over to race, it should be a great night of racing.” The 2010 Gold Cup winner will be one to watch on Sunday night. Fans are encouraged to come down and meet the Aussie after all feature races have completed.

All weekend long, spectator admission gates will open at 5pm with hot-laps underway at 7 and heat races starting at 7:30. In case of any weather postponements, the back-up date is Monday, July 4. Additional information for event schedules and ticket prices is located on www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
