SFCR - St. Francois County RacewayFarmington, MO (July 2) – Hot weather, fireworks, cold beverages at the Soaring Eagle Distributing stand and a good crowd saw Jimmy Hurley take home the winners share of the pie. Starting on the outside of the first row Jimmy Hurley, Springfield, IL made it stick for the win on a very hot and muggy Saturday Night. Hurley, the defending Track Champion and Current Point Leader, got the jump on polesitter A J Bruns, Lincoln, IL and never looked back. Those two along with Joey Montgomery, Fredericktown, MO, Jimmy Bridgeman, Farmington, MO and Tommy Worley, Jr, Bismarck, MO would bring the crowd to its feet headed toward turn one. Action for this event was furious throughout the field. Spins for Kory Bales and Brian Keen brought out caurtions for their spinning cars. Close racing between Montgomery, Worley and Bridgeman found no room at the inn for mistakes. Worley and Montgomery made some contact, Bridgeman saw this and tried to escape by taking the low road. The attempt looke dlike a good move, but he was forced into the infield. He found the water and mud. He tried to refire but could not. Hurley collects another win for the season and told the crowd in the post race interview that he was glad to finally finish one off. Joey Montogmery takes runner up honors. Tommy Worley settles for third. A returning Steve Short brought his car home for a very respectful fourth place finish and Kasey Burch had a nice run as he finished fifth. Jimmy Bridgeman, Hurley and Joey Boyd are the heat winners on this night. A J Bruns took home dash honors, his second of the season.

In the A-Modified Division, Brent Thompson takes home the checkers again. One of his chief rivals was not in attendance on this weekend. Billy Smith was away. However, Matt Eaton gave Brent all he wanted. Eaton won his heat, the Dash, and was looking for the broom and the sweep. Eaton did get the jump on Thompson, Rusty Griffaw, “Rooster” Griffin and Danny Resinger. Eaton, Thompson and Griffaw placed some distance between themselves and the field. Each driver running a line in their own comfort zone. Thompson’s car liked the top. Eaton drove it hard on the bottom, made up ground in the turns, but could not get the bite he needed for the winning pass. Behind these three, Griffin, Kent nations, Matt Dotson, and Mike Abney were mixing it up. Dotson, found the high side good and began to apply pressure. He would get the run going and the yellow waved. A rough stretch getting past lap 12. Bill Nickelson would draw the initial caution. Ensuing restart attempt found Resinger and Dave Chilton drawing caution flags. The group continued the fight for the remainder of the feature. Dotson did win the battle and a top five finish. Thompson the winner with Eaton second. Griffaw brings it home third, followed by Kent Nation in fourth and Matt Dotson in fifth. Griffaw, Thompson and Eaton won their respective heats and Eaton took home the dash.

Michael Savage made it two in a row on this double point night in the B Modified Division. Chris Boyd brought the field to the green along with Kyle Stolzer, John Bohn, Shane Blair and Kenny Harris. A spin on the first lap by Darren Martin slowed the event before anyone could settle in for the long hall. Cautions again appeared on laps 8 and 9. Stolzer, the current leader in the 2011 points chase, worked on Boyd for several laps, moved his car to mid track and top, and got shuffled back and finished in the eighth position. Bohn and Savage both got by the leader and Savage takes the win.. Bohn, had another great run for second. Boyd finished third and has the modified working well. Greg Swearingim found speed in his car for a fourth place finish. Eddie Gross still looking for the magic combination completes the top five. Boyd, Stolzer, and Savage won the heats on this night.

Our beloved Pure Street Division saw Jimmy Farris run with Chris Boyd, Robbie Williams and Eric Sarakas. John Bohn found his way into this group at the start as well. Williams would get the jump on the field only to come around and spin his car in turn one. He would be restarting at the end of the pack. Chris Boyd got eh jump on the restart followed by Eric Sarakas, Farris, Bohn and Ron Sweeney. A multitude of caution waved during the event. The most serious came about as Christian Devine spun his car in front of the lead pack, Chris Boyd had nowhere to go, made contact and broke something on his car and was out. Farris would then take the front spot on the restart. Sarakas, Nohn Josh Skaggs and Robbie Williams followed. A multi car incident involving Williams, Skaggs, and Sweeney on lap 11 looked like lots of trouble, but at the other end of the track Ben Moore had already spun his machine. He was credited with the caution and those three drivers got their positions back and a chance to race for the win. Farris held on to the top spot and the win. Eric Sarakas, in his best run of the season, takes the well deserved runner up honors. John Bohn takes a new car for a third place ride. Josh Skaggs in his dads familiar green #7 machine gets fourth place. After the early spin Robbie Williams battles his way back into the top five with a fifth place run.

Next Saturday night, July 9, will be another $5.00 grandstand admission night. Children under the age of 12 and with a paying adult are admitted free. Pit Passes if you wold like to get closer to the action are $25.00. Gates open at 4:00. Hot Laps at 6:00 and racing to follow. Come early and get a good seat.
