USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesBy Dennis Daniel

July 25, 2011 – The best drivers in Dirt Modified racing will all converge on Spring Valley, MN’s Deer Creek Speedway beginning on Wednesday, July 27th to compete in the World Modified Dirt Track Championships presented by Hanson Tire Service.  At stake will be the top prize of $20,000 going to Saturday’s feature winner, which is part a nearly $150,000 purse to be paid out to the field of the open wheel Modified teams and drivers.

More than 150 drivers have signed up to compete, representing 21 different states and 2 Canadian provinces.  The best Modified drivers in the world will be on had to take their shot at becoming the richest Modified race winner of the year.  Drivers from around the country, California to North Carolina, Minnesotato New Mexico, will be on hand to sling the dirt at Deer Creek’s 3/8th mile clay oval, which also hosts several top level events throughout the year, including the prestigious UMSTS Fall Jamboree held each September.

The pre-entry list of drivers includes many former National champions of the many different sanctions of Modified racing, including all former USMTS champions and former USRA, IMCA,COMO, WISSOTA and UMP Modified National champions, as well as other big race winners.  The top talent in open wheel Modifieds will be there joined by some top level drivers from the Late Model ranks as well.  To win, drivers and teams will have to beat the best drivers on dirt to claim that $20,000 check.

The unique format for the event will have drivers split up over the three preliminary days for a chance to earn a spot in Saturday’s huge paying feature.  On Wednesday, 6 of the scheduled 69 teams schedule to race will have the first chance to lock themselves into the A main on Saturday.  Teams who do not earn a spot can use a mulligan, where they will have a chance to throw out their results from Wednesday and try to qualify again on one of the two remaining preliminary days.  On Thursday, 66 pre-entered teams will be joined by some of the mulligan drivers, where 6 more drivers will be locked into a starting spot and guaranteeing themselves at least $1,500 starting money on Saturday.  Friday has 17 drivers pre-entered, and will also be joined by some Wednesday and Thursday mulligan drivers with their chance to race their way into the feature.

The action on each of the preliminary days will get under way at 6:30 PM with hot laps, immediately followed by group qualifying time trials.  After qualifications, heat races, B Mains and qualifying A Mains will complete each night’s program.  On Saturday, the racing is set to get under way at 5:30 PM, with the “alphabet soup” of qualifying mains, starting with an H Main and going up to the A Main.  There will be a post race concert by The Dweebs on Friday night, with karaoke after Thursdays racing action as added entertainment.

Tickets for the event are available online or by calling Deer Creek Speedway.  Visit www.DeerCreekSpeedway.com or call 1-877-DCS-Race or 507-754-6107.  Tickets for preliminary nights are $25 adults and $10 kids.  Saturday tickets will be $30 adults and $10 kids.
