66th Anniversary of Macon Speedway
Macon Speedway is hosting the Chevrolet Hall of Fame Driver Reunion party at Macon Speedway set for Saturday, August 13. We are looking for past drivers of all ages to come and join us. This party will honor all our past drivers of Macon Speedway. Help us spread the word and get as many drivers as possible to help make this event a success. We will have a pre race BBQ from 3-5 pm; racing begins at 7. All past drivers will be honored at intermission of the night’s events which include the Chevrotlet Late Models, Billingsley Towing Modified, Touchstone Energy Sportsman, Street Stocks, Pro and Amateur Hornets. Saturday night’s Late Model race will be the final night of the Bully Dog Triple Crown Series. Also bring the kids out to the track to see the Monster Truck “Raminator” presented by Kid’s Castle. Cromwell is also sponsoring the Fan Appreciation Night this Saturday by distributing $2.00 off coupons for fans to use towards their general admission ticket. Fans may go to the eight Decatur Area Subways, 6 Casey’s Stores, Pop’s Place, Downtown Decatur Firestone Store, Decatur Auto Parts, Donnelly Automotive, Coziahr Harley Davidson, Mid-America Tire, Creekmur Auto Service, Cliff’s Transmission, Tarrant’s Service, World of Powersports, Billingsley B-P in South Shores, Express Lube or the the Wharf for the coupons to bring to Macon Speedway on August 13 for the discounted admission. Saturday night will also be our third event in the Bully Dog Triple Crown Event for the UMP Chevrolet Late Models. Our Macon Speedway Kid’s Club sponsored by Kid’s Castle will also be meeting for a special pizza party at 6:00 pm, so bring the kids out for a fun family night of entertainment at Macon Speedway!
Macon Speedway is one of the Midwest’s premier dirt racing facilities and is one of Illinois’ oldest racetracks which opened its doors on April 7th, 1946. Macon Speedway was built and originally operated by Wayne Webb. Opening night featured midget racing through the mid 50’s, then the track went on to feature Super Modifieds which ran into the late 60’s. Next, the Super Stock division which later changed their name to Late Models joined the line up along with Modified, Sportsman, and Street Stock divisions. Macon Speedway is in its 66th year in operation in 2011, one of the oldest businesses in Macon County.
Macon Speedway is a fan favorite race track with many fans coming to the acclaimed track since early childhood. The current owners of Macon Speedway; Tony Stewart, Ken Schrader, Kenny Wallace and Bob Sargent are all very excited about this event and hope to continue to make this Driver Reunion a yearly event where we can honor the drivers in the past who have made Macon Speedway what it is today.
