(Warrensburg) After a rain-out and wind damage last weekend to signs and the grandstands at Central Missouri Speedway, the chase for the season championships returns to the smooth high-banked clay oval surface this week with the ‘Mighty” Modifieds, ULMA Late Models, Street Stocks and B-Modifieds on Boy Scout Night at the races. All boy scouts and parents will receive a special discount admission rate on tickets this weekend. For details and to make arrangements, call Susan Walls at (816) 229-1338. As the CMS season winds down, promoters Earl and Susan Walls have removed the track registration fee for the remaining races. This makes it a little easier on the drivers’ pocketbooks, especially if they’ve not raced with us this year and for those drivers who want to say they were able to compete at CMS before it closes down at the end of this year.

As the season draws down, familiar names have returned to Waterloo Storage Products Victory Lane as they battle for hard-fought victories. In the modifieds, Sedalia’s Terry Schultz leads Jason Bodenhamer and Jason Thompson in this tough division of talented drivers from throughout the metro area. Tim Karrick is the man to beat lately with three feature wins in the previous four races. Schultz, Thompson, Bodenhamer, Dustin Boney, Austin Siebert, and Chad Lyle have won the weekly features at CMS this year with Kelly Shryock taking home the big money during the Tom Wilson Memorial Fourth of July special event. Note: mention of driver name does not guarantee driver will be present at CMS on any race night.

In ULMA Late Model racing, Jason Bodenhamer from Centerview finds himself at the top once again as he battles for his second-consecutive CMS late model crown. Brett Wood had an early season feature win and sits in the second spot with Kevin Coyne improving each week up to third. James McMillin, Bob King, Jon Binning, and six-time winner Steve Clancy have also taken home the winners trophies. Bodenhamer and Clancy find themselves in the middle of a tight points battle for the overall ULMA title, which will likely come down to the October 1st Hog Roast Nationals at CMS as Earl and Susan Walls bring their 18-year storied career of owning and promoting the speedway to a close.

The Street Stock division has some familiar drivers in the top three spots with Brian Ziegler from Bates City on top after posting six features victories this year. Right behind him is Michael Mullins of Kingsville in second with one feature win. Veteran driver, Herb Dannar from Holden is currently in third, but you never know who will step up as a championship contender in this class. Other feature winners this season include Donnie Dannar, Jerry Schmidt, Nate Barnes and Bryce McMillin, who registered his first-ever feature win last week. Jimmy Morris took several early season wins including the annual street stock special on the Memorial Day weekend.

The B-Modified class has been dominated this season by Oak Grove driver, Jacob Ebert with nine feature wins to his credit. Ethan Isaacs of Bonner Springs, Kansas sits in the second spot by virtue of his three feature wins. Consistent finisher and improved driver Jason Billups, finds himself in third with five top-five finishes. Other feature winners include Brad Smith with two victories and Bobby Russ Wood. B-Modifieds will have a big night of racing on Saturday, September 3rd for the annual track b-modified special 25-lap main event. Drivers that have competed twice at CMS this year in a b-modified weekly program will have a reduced entry fee for the race. Same night entries are always welcome in any CMS class for any race.

There is still plenty of racing left at CMS including two big-money modified races! After this week, the annual Labor Day two-day special takes place on Saturday, September 3rd with all four weekly classes in competition and regular grandstand and pit prices for the annual b-modifieds special $1,500-to-win race. Modifieds will be competing for the inside row starting positions for the following night’s modified special. On Sunday, September 4th, modifieds return to settle the outside row starting positions for the $3,000-to-win 40-lap main event. Also on the card that night is the first-ever CMS appearance by Grand National cars competing on the high banks; Midwest Lightning Sprints (MLS) will make their third and final appearance of the year and the street stocks will be back for another night of action. There are no registration fees for any classes throughout the weekend. Admission and pit-pass prices for Sunday, September 4th will be increased. See the Labor Day special event flyer on the CMS website for complete details. B-modified and modified competitors who have competed at least twice in a weekly program prior to (no other specials included) this event, will have reduced entry fees.

The Walls plan to end their time at CMS in a big way on Saturday, October 1st with the Hog Roast Modified Nationals. All regular classes will take part in the program with modifieds gunning for a whopping $3,500 to win in a 50-lap main event. Modifieds, Street Stocks, and B-modifieds will have a rare opportunity to run outlaw style as there will only be weight rules in effect for these classes! ULMA Late Models will be competing for extra money raised from the ULMA silent auction, which will take place during the Labor Day Weekend. This event will be part of the ULMA championship point season and all cars must be in compliance with all ULMA rules. There is no registration fee for any classes competing. Modified drivers can save $35 on their entry by pre-registering before the end of the season. Forms are available at the track and online for modified entries. Modified pre-entry fee is $100 if paid by deadline, same night entries are available for $135. All pit passes during the Hog Roast race will be $35 and include a ticket for the post-race hog roast and party! Fans may purchase a ticket to the post-race festivities when paying for their admission ticket on the night of the Hog Roast Nationals.

CMS pit gates will open this Saturday, August 27th at 4:30, grandstand admission starts at 5, hot laps begin at 7 and racing gets underway on the track shortly after the National Anthem. For additional CMS info call the Track Report line at (660) 747-2166 or visit the track’s official Web site at www.centralmissourispeedway.net.
