Knoxville Raceway(MENOMONIE, WISCONSIN) The Mars Racing team traveled literally down the road to the Red Cedar Speedway in Menomonie, Wisconsin on September 23-24 for the 32nd Annual ‘Punky Manor Challenge of Champions.’ Jimmy Mars won his heat race in preliminary action on Friday night and later rolled off from the outside of the front row in the $1,000 to win feature event. The Menomonie ace vied for the lead throughout the race, but wound up a strong second behind only race winner Chad Mahder.

When Saturday came around, the #28 team was gunning for the $5,000 top prize in the ‘Punky Manor Challenge of Champions’ finale. Jimmy ran second in his heat race and later started the A-Main from the sixth position. The popular driver known as the “Iceman” raced his way to the front of the field and eventually grabbed the top spot around the halfway point. Jimmy went on to pick up his fifth ‘Punky Manor’ title and his eleventh win of the 2011 season over Lance Matthees, Jake Redetzke, AJ Diemel, and Mike Prochnow. Full results from the weekend at Red Cedar can be viewed online at www.redcedarracing.com.

“The Punky Manor is one of the most prestigious races around our area and Red Cedar is one of my favorite tracks, so it is always sweet to win that event,” exclaimed Mars this week. “We came up a little shy on Friday night, but got the car just right for Saturday’s race. It is always a lot of fun to race in front of your hometown fans and to celebrate another Punky Manor title with them was really fun. Hopefully, we can get another big win at Knoxville this weekend – we have been good there in the past, but just haven’t sealed the deal for the victory yet. Maybe this year will be our year!”

Jimmy and the #28 team will now turn their sole focus to the 8th Annual ‘Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals’ at the Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, Iowa from September 29-October 1. A pair of $7,000 to win Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series programs will kick off the three-day extravaganza tonight and Friday evening at the 1/2-mile complex, while Saturday’s 100-lap finale will pay $40,000 to the winner. The high-definition cameras of the SPEED Channel will be on hand to tape all of the wheel-to-wheel action for broadcast in a matter of weeks.
