Springfield RacewaySpringfield,Mo.-Current RHS USRA National modified point leader johnny bone Jr had a tough decision for Sat.Leave West Plains where he finished second on Friday Night or tackle the Quick-Quarter of the High-Banked Springfield Raceway and attempt to take home the winners share of the $1222 to win event and also capture USRA National points.Bone made the right choice as he held off a mid-race challange from Bobby Pearish to headline the 6th annual Bordertown Casino Event.

Following 3 very tough heats, the top 8 drivers in passing points redrew for starting spots as the track was being reworked during the popular Casino Bucks fan money drop.Robbie Bryant and Bone redrew the front row as the 20 car grid came out from the 25 lap feature. At the start,Bone jumped to the high side of the speedway with Bryant following closely along with Nathan Mayes, high point car Pearish,2010 champion mitch Keeter and John Yeoman III.4th place starting Terry Beckham II jump the cushion on the opening lap in turn 4,and fell back towards the rear of the star-studded field as the 3 wide action was quick. Out in front Bone was setting a blistering pace as Pearish had moved into second place on lap 3 and began his charge after the leader. As the top 2 pulled away,Bryant,Mayes,Yeoman,Keeter and a fast moving Erik Maggard were thrilling the crowd with outstanding action. At lap 12,the leaders were starting to work lapped traffic as Beckham II was trying to pick his way back forward.Pearish had relled in the leader Bone as the second generation driver from Pea Ridge,Ark was having problems getting through the pack part of the field. As Pearish was preparing to attempt a pass, the first caution waved on lap 17 as Jason Pursley,Jim Body and Brian Green all got together in turn 1 slowing the pace for the first time.Pursley’s night ended as tghe field bunched-up on the double-file restart.Bone was able to pull away as Pearish picked the top lane as Arknsas hot shoe Nathan Mayes was challanging Pearish for second place while Keeter,Bryant,Yeoman,Maggard, mickey Burrell and 2011 champion Jackie Dalton were battling. On lap 19,Mayes moved around Pearish for second place only to spin on the following lap in turn 2.That would be the final caution for the feature.Pearish picked the bottom groove on the restart as the field took the green,Bone would quickly pull away and capture his first ever Bordertown Casino Octoberfast event as Pearish held off Mitch Keeter for the runner-up spot followed by Maggard,Dalton,Bryant,Burrell,Turkey Classic winner Jody Tillman,Beckham II and Yeoman in the top 10.19 of the 20 starters were running at the end with 17 cars on the lead lap.

“The track was racy and smooth all night.”quoted Bone.”We have been in a small slump lately in USRA National event and after last night in West Plains we figured maybe coming here tonight would change our luck. This was a super event and maybe helped us get ready for next weekend at Humboldt.”

THe B-Mod feature wasn’t decided until the final turn, final lap as Kris Jackson nipped 2011 point champion Bobby Maggard Jr right at the finish line.Andy Beauchamp and Maggard lead the field to the green with $777 on line to the winner.Maggard kept his GM Performance crate motor in for this event as extra money was up for grabs with the Crates.Maggard grabbed the opening lead with Scott Drake following closely. As the two hot-shoes pulled away,Jackson who started 4th in the feature overtook Beauchamp on lap 3 to move into third place. The 1st caution waved on lap 5 as Bill Schaar went off the end of turn 1 bunching the field-up.Drake picked the high groove on the restart as Jackson overtook Drake on the following lap for second place. This trio started to pull away from the field as JC Morton began some forward movement followed by Beauchamp.Jackson was staying down low while Maggard drove the top line around.A lap 17 caution set-up the tight finish. On the restart,Maggard pulled away, but Jackson started to reel him in during this short sprint to the finish. On the white flag lap,Jackson really found some speed and kept glued to the bottom groove.Coming out of turn 4,the duo were side by side as Jackson found some bit down low and nipped Maggard by less than 2 inches at the line.Drake,Morotn and 11th place starting Michael Stake followed as 16 of the 20 starters were on the lead lap.

In Midwest Modz action the battle up front was 2-3 wide all night long as Rusty Forrest found the very top of the track to his liking as he got the jump on Sam Petty on the start,Forrest would then have to fend off 2011 champion Trevor Drake and Petty all 15 laps to grab the victory.Following Drake and Petty to the stripe were Randy Belk and Bobby Gough as only 1 caution slowed the action.19 of the 20 starters finished on the lead lap.

The Bombers made their first apperance of the season and provided a great feature as 16 cars took the Green flag.Defending event winner Mark Simon would grab the opening lead with Joe Francis following closely along with Dan Wood. After 3 wide action,Francis made a move out of turn 4 to grab the lead from Simon on lap 6.Bill Schoen and Rob White along with a fast moving Rex Sawyer were gaining until lap 10 when Sawyer’s night ended with fuel pump problems in turn 4.With Francis out in front on the restart,Bill Schoen would make a move around Simon to grab second place as Rob White was starting to gain ground.Francis would withstand the last lap efforts of Schoen to take the win with Schoen,Simon,White and Wayne Bysor following.

Wayne Johnston took the opening lead in the Legend Car feature with Jay Reynolds following closely.During the long green flag run,Reynolds tried several different lanes around Johnston, but couldn’t make it stick. The first caution waved on lap 13 bunchnig the field-up.On the restart while going for the lead,Reynolds looped it in turn 2 bringing out the yellow and placing Bill Cottrill in the runner-up spot.On the restart,Johnston found Cottrill on his bumper as Tyler horton was moving quickly through the pack along with Rodney Baird.Johnston would fend off Cottrill’s charges to grab the win with Cottrill,Horton,Baird and Matt Gruenburg following at the stripe.

The Purestock feature saw 19 of the 20 cars entered take the opening green flag as Eric clay would pull away from the field as clayton Powell,Matt Young and Ken Scott following.Clay would check out leaving a great 3 wide battle for second place, little did they know it would be for the win.Clay would be Disqualified in after race tech for not pulling vaccum giving clayton Powell the win.It was Clayton’s first Springfield win and the biggest payday of his carrer.Powell has won 2 other features at Springfield, but tech issues took away the win.Following Powell to the official finsh was Bryan Tillman, point champion Jack Hamer,Denny Felker and Ken Scott.

Over 130 race teams checked into the Bordertown Casino Octoberfast under beautiful skies and a near perfect feature event track.
