USRA(Las Cruces, NM – November 5, 2011) Night #2 of the USRA Fall Modified Nationals would pick up a trio of new check-ins to bring the weekend total to 85 Modifieds at the Southern New Mexico Speedway with the 30 of Chase Allen and the 9 of Jimmy Ray earning the front row in Saturday night’s 40 lap feature event.

To the green and the 30 of Allen would take full advantage of his pole starting position; jumping to the lead over the 9 of Ray with the 2s of Stormy Scott jumping into third on the start. Working lap five, the front three would run about the same with Ray and Scott both working the top shelf as the 30 of Allen worked right around the infield berm. Able to run down the 30 of Allen on the high line, Ray would put the hammer down; taking over the top spot with 33 laps to run. Working on lap 8 however, Ray would not be able to hold off Terry Phillips as the Andy’s Frozen Custard 75 rocked into the race lead after starting ninth on the field.

Pulling away to a huge advantage, Phillips would go mostly unchallenged; only contending with the occasional lapped car as the battle for second continued with Ray working on to keep the 2s of Story Scott at bay. Racing past the half-way point, the lone caution of the 40 lap contest would come out with twenty-three laps to run as Tucson’s Dana Fite spun to a stop in turns four.

Back to green and the car on the move as the 71 of Jason Cummins. Restarting sixth after already fighting from fourteenth, Cummins would beat everyone to the high line; jumping from sixth to third in less than a lap with second place running Stormy Scott in his sites.

To less than ten laps to go, Cummins would be unable to make up any more ground on Scott as the battle on the track was for the final transfer spot. Running in fifth, Kelly Shryock would have his hands full as Chase Allen worked on racing back into a transfer spot as the 74 of Jeremy Payne continued his charge from the 16th starting spot.

As the final laps approached, slower traffic would again not affect Phillips as the driver of the 75 pulled to over a straight-a-way advantage to claim the win and the outside front row starting position. Stormy Scott would pull off second with Jason Cummins and Jimmy Ray taking third and fourth while Rodney Sanders, the 2010 Champion of this race, was able to steal away the fifth and final transfer spot into Sunday’s top starting rows.

So with the top 10 starting spots now locked in, the finale of the 2011 USRA Fall Modified Nationals is set for Sunday November 6, 2011. Gates to the Speedway will open at Noon with racing beginning at 2pm. Admission for the grandstands is $12 with discounts for kids 11-15, Military, Seniors, Law Enforcement, and University Id. Children 10 years and younger get in free.

Live race audio can be found at www.racinboys.com.

Sunday’s Fall Nationals Finale will be dedicated to raising money for the March of Dimes High Heel for High Hopes. The more fans in the stands the more money we will be able to donate to the March of Dimes. For the first 500 general admission tickets sold, $1 from each ticket will be donated to the March of Dimes. After that, every ticket sold will see $2 donated until we reach 1,000 tickets sold. After we sell over 1,000 general admission tickets the Speedway will then donate half of every ticket to the March of Dimes.

In addition to donations from the front gate, everyone in the stands will have a chance to bid on one of the 10 drivers already locked into Sunday’s $10,000 to win event. The highest bidder will win that driver as their choice to win the Fall Nationals. After all bidding is complete, all the money raised will be put into one big pot and the person whose driver wins the race will get half of the total money raised with the other half going to the March of Dimes. Basically, if all the bids yield a total of $2,000, the drivers winning bidder will get $1,000 and the March of Dimes will get $1,000. Bidding will be open to everyone in attendance.
