Columbus, MS (12/15/2011) Jeff Greer and Mike Mauldin in conjunction with the Nickoles family will be running Columbus Speedway (Columbus, Mississippi) on a weekly basis for the 2012 season.

Less than 24 hours after Johnny Stokes announced that he would no longer be running and promoting the 1/3 mile, high-banked oval, Greer and Mauldin contacted the Nickoles family about operating the track for the 2012 season.

Mauldin, who has been the race director at Columbus Speedway over the past few years comments, “Columbus Speedway is a special place, and nobody wants to see it closed. Jeff Greer (who promotes North Alabama Speedway) and I contacted the Nickoles family this morning, and we’ve worked out a deal to work as partners to them for the 2012 season. We’re proud to announce that we are bringing weekly racing back to the Bullring. We will work closely with Johnny Stokes to make sure that we don’t have any scheduling issues with Magnolia Motor Speedway.”

While the schedule is not yet laid out the track will likely open in late March or early April. The weekly program will consist of Super Late Models, NeSmith Weekly Late Models, Street Stocks, Mini Stocks, and a new cost-efficient Pure Stock division. More details will soon be available at the track’s website, which is soon to be redesigned at www.ColumbusSpeedway.net .

For more information please contact Mike Mauldin at 662-213-3047 or Jeff Greer at 256-349-4328.
