“The Dude” Joins National ASCS Contingent for Copper Classic!

Canyon Speedway Park's Winter ChallengeKevin Montgomery PEORIA, Ariz. (January 31st, 2012) – With March fast approaching and the start of the Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series season opener set to take place at Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Arizona, Danny Lasoski has confirmed his plans to head west to stake his claim on the Copper Classic.

Lasoski, 2011 Knoxville Raceway Champion, has earned a long and established resume that ranks him as one of the top sprint car drivers ever. Winning 4 Knoxville National Titles, 9 Knoxville Raceway Championships, Championships in the NST and WoO and all time Knoxville feature victory leader, Lasoski will be looking to capture his first Copper Classic title to add to his long list of accomplishments.

Fred Rahmer graced victory lane after beating Steve Kinser in a 30-lap green to checker race at Canyon Speedway Park in 1993. Rahmer’s victory marked the last time a major Wing Sprint Car Tour made laps around the Peoria, Arizona 1/3-mile clay oval. Now a little more than 19 years later the wait is over with one of the hottest Wing Sprint Car National Tours in the country opening their 2012 championship season on Canyon Speedway soil as the Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series debuts at the Copper Classic March 2nd and 3rd.

Bixby, Oklahoma’s Shane Stewart edged Albuquerque’s Johnny Herrera by just one point for the closest championship battle in the series’ 20-year history and secured his second driver’s title in three years while Jason Johnson’s JJR No. 41 team took top honors in owner points for the second year in a row.

Race fans can mark their calendar for the return of National Wing Sprint Cars as The Lucas Oil ASCS National Sprint Car Series comes to Arizona for undoubtedly the best show on dirt and race fans can catch all the action for less than $18 per day. Two day advanced tickets are now on sale and race enthusiasts can take advantage of discounted ticket prices for the much anticipated return of National Wing Sprint Cars to Canyon Speedway.

With more than 40 of the nations top Wing Sprint Car drivers expected to take part in the season opener and top IMCA Modified drivers kicking off the 2012 Championship effort, The Copper Classic will be a must see event.
