By Jimmy Rouse – The Amsoil V-8 Thunderstocks started off on a bad note for 2 big hitters as Mike Stalnaker found himself shedding pieces and Davey Kinsey had a tire go down. However, 25 laps is a long race and you can never count a driver out. Grady Christian took the lead from David Miller, Jr. on lap 2 and held it for a while, even through the lap 6 caution when hard-charging Kinsey and Vaughn Woodall made contact sending Woodall’s 3W around. The accident also collected Richard Calmes, Justin Durbin, and the 2nd Woodall car of Marlon Durbin. On the restart Brian Shea got loose and bounced off of Jonathan Appleby and straight into unfortunate bystander David Miller, Jr. The final caution came on lap 11 when JD Gillette spun out of turn 4 with the leaders right behind him. The restart allowed Shea to get around Christian but the battle was far from over. Kinsey came hard and on lap 20 Grady Christian fell back allowing Shea and Kinsey to duke it out. Contact led to Shea’s left front tire going down and a quick trip through the infield earned him the nickname “Flyin” Brian Shea. Driver #19 kept in it and finished 3rd just narrowly getting beat out by Patrick Williams in the Eddie Lake-owned 96L. The night, however, belonged once more to Davey Kinsey and the Big Frog Motorsports crew. The 58 was 3-for-3 and has won 4 consecutive dating back to last season. Jonathan Appleby finished 4th while Jason Blackmer had the quietest top 5 you’ll ever see. Jason Gamble put the #73 in 6th, Richard Calmes won the B Main and finished an impressive 7th, and Gordon Cade found 8th by the end of the night. Robert Donaly and Vaughn Woodall completed the top 10.

Just 3 times in 50 laps did yellow wave in this battle between 3 generations and 3 of the toughest multi-car teams in Florida. Lap 1 saw Chad Olsen spin in turn 4 while part of the lead-pack wad cars up in turn 2. Kenny Wallace and Wayne Hammond were big losers in the accident which ultimately ended Fast Qualifier Hammond’s night. The next 25 laps were green and Kyle Bronson pulled out a gap in the first 2 laps and kept David Reutimann and Ivedent Lloyd, Jr. at bay through the competition caution on lap 26. Bronson, David Reutimann, Lloyd, Kyle Strickler, and “4-time” Jeff Mathews were the top 5. On lap 32 Curt Myers hit the back stretch wall and brought the yellow out. As Myers made his way to the apron he about took Buzzie Reutimann out with him but all was okay between the 2 drivers. Reutimann kept Bronson honest but the driver of the 40B never let him have a shot and took victory with ease leading all 50. Reutimann finished 2nd with Lloyd, Strickler, and Mathews in pursuit. Buzzie Reutimann was 6th, Kenny Wallace an impressive 7th off the comeback trail, 8th was Bart Hartman’s, Nick Hoffman 9th, and Buzzy Adams completed the top 10.

Next week USAC Amsoil Sprints hit the clay for practice Wednesday and racing, alongside the Florida Mini Sprints Association, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. You won’t want to miss the action that you can learn more about at 352-622-9400 or at www.bubbaracewaypark.com!
