USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesSAUK RAPIDS, Minn. (April 6) – The Granite City Speedway has a new name, new owner and new management team … and the United States Modified Touring Series will deliver it’s brand of unmatched racing excitement to a new track this season.

The 3/8-mile semi-banked clay oval in Sauk Rapids, Minn., was purchased during the off-season by GRC Properties, LLC of St. Cloud, and has made many improvements to the former Golden Spike Speedway including remodeled VIP suites and a new restaurant area for fans.

Officials announced this week that the USMTS Modifieds will invade the Granite City Speedway for the first time on Thursday, June 14, for a USMTS Casey’s Cup Series show featuring the Best of the Best on dirt.

“I could not be more excited to bring the fire-breathing USMTS to Granite City for the first time ever in June,” said General Manager Chris Stepan. “With this date being hooked up with Superior and the Masters our fans should see a tremendous show. We look forward to this being one of our biggest shows of the year.”

The event will be sandwiched between a first-time visit to the Amsoil Speedway in Superior, Wis., on Wednesday, June 13, and the 14th Annual Masters event on Friday and Saturday, June 15-16, at the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis.

Fans will notice immediate improvements to the facility including a completely new racing surface, a newly remodeled restaurant building, a renovated Wild Country press building and the removal of a non-used building as well as general clean up, beautification and modernization to the overall facility.

Along with the new name and new ownership comes a new management team to oversee and operate the day-to-day events held at the speedway. Longtime area promoter and St. Cloud resident Chris Stepan has been hired to serve as the General Manager of the Granite City Speedway and will be in charge of all events that take place at the facility throughout the year.
