USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesMONETT, Mo. (April 22) – Terry Phillips passed race-long leader Rodney Sanders with nine laps remaining Sunday, and then went on to win the 7th Annual Race Brothers Farm & Home Supply Missouri Nationals at the Monett Speedway for his second straight USMTS Casey’s Cup victory.

From the pole, Sanders was in charge for most of the race but Phillips began to slowly reel him by lap 20. A caution on lap 25 completely erased the leader’s advantage and Phillips flew around Sanders two laps after the restart.

From there, Phillips went unchallenged to win his third USMTS Casey’s Cup main event of the season and pocket the $2,000 winner’s share of the prize money. It was also his series-best third career triumph at Monett.

Jason Hughes and Ryan Gustin – both two-time winners at the ‘Grand Ol’ Lady’ – were able to get by Sanders in the closing laps to finish second and third, respectively, while the points leader held on to an ill-handling ride to finish fourth.

Johnny Scott was fifth, Dereck Ramirez took sixth, seventh went to Bryan Rowland, Stormy Scott earned the eighth spot, NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader nabbed ninth and Steve Muilenburg finished right where he started in tenth.

Attention now turns to next week as the USMTS National Championship Series returns to action with a tripleheader in Wisconsin and Minnesota.

On Thursday, April 26, the series invades the Rice Lake Speedway in Rice Lake, Wis., for the first of three $4,000-to-win blockbusters over a three-day stretch.

Friday, April 27, will find America’s favorite dirt Modified tour at the Mississippi Thunder Speedway in Fountain City, Wis., while the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., welcomes the USMTS National Championship Series on Saturday, April 28.
