Lucas Cattle Company ULMA late model drivers have now completed one-fourth of the 2012 season. This weekend there are two opportunities to earn ULMA points for drivers. One at Callaway Raceway on Friday night and one at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri on Saturday night during the MLRA super late model special event. After last weekend’s action, the association now has a new point standings leader as Brandon Imhoff becomes only the second driver to lead the standings this year. Imhoff posted a strong second-place running at Callaway Raceway in Fulton, Missouri over the weekend to assume command of the standings. The Columbia, Missouri driver now has a pair of runner-up finishes to his credit and five additional top-five finishes in ten starts this season, in fact he only has two finishes outside of the top ten so far this year.

Justin Russell continued his string of recent strong runs by coming away with a third-place finish at Callaway Raceway last Friday, his fourth-consecutive ULMA finish of seventh or better in his last four starts. It’s always great to mention an accomplishment or achievement by a driver, and that is exactly what we get to do in this week’s ULMA weekly rewind as Sturgeon, Missouri driver Ashley Lancaster, the lone female ULMA competitor, posted her first-ever ULMA official top five finish by posting a fourth place run at Callaway Raceway. Chris Cox, Alan Westling, and Trace Westling were also posted inside the top ten during the night’s final rundown. Be sure to visit the track online at www.callawayraceways.com for event details and start times.

Another round of unfortunate low car counts didn’t stop the action from being any less stellar during ULMA’s most recent appearance at Valley Speedway in Grain Valley, Missouri. Chris Hawkins of Neosho, Missouri once again proved he is the man to beat at Valley Speedway when he posted his second speedway win worth $600 and third overall ULMA victory this season. Hawkins now has victories in two of the first three ULMA appearances at the track this year. Hawkins is tied for the most ULMA wins this year with former point leader Jason Russell with three wins each. Jon Binning returned to competition for the first time since injuring his arm earlier this season and ultimately sitting out several weeks after surgery. Binning posted a strong run to second Friday night in his return to action, his best finish of the year and best Valley Speedway finish since winning an event there on May 18, 2007. On the way to second, Binning had a spirited battle with his GRT chassis stable mate and previous Valley Speedway feature winner, Brett Wood, who came away with a solid third-place run.

Pole sitter Jimmy Morris slipped back a bit from his pole starting position but still managed a fourth-place run. Jimmy Jobe, a long-time ULMA competitor, posted his best-ever finish in any ULMA competition by coming away with a top-five. Steve Clancy, James McMillin and Nathan Cates also posted finishes. ULMA will return to Valley Speedway again on Friday, June 15th as two ULMA drivers will earn provisional starting positions during the night’s MLRA super late model action, starting positions will go to one driver highest in Valley Speedway late model track points and one driver highest in current ULMA standings that do not transfer into the MLRA main event under normal heat race and b-main qualifying circumstances.. ULMA’s next solo appearance at Valley Speedway will come the following weekend on Friday, June 22nd. Visit the track online at www.valleyspeedway.com for event details, schedule, and start times for this weekend’s action.

ULMA sanctioned action will return on Saturday, June 9th at Lucas Oil Speedway. The track recently completed a special event weekend and is not racing this Saturday. ULMA has learned that defending MARS DirtCar series late model champion Brad Looney plans to race a ULMA car at Lucas Oil Speedway when his schedule permits throughout the remainder of the year. Visit the track’s official website at www.lucasoilspeedway.com for more information regarding the next Saturday night event at the speedway, which will also feature drag-boat racing!

This Saturday, June 2, drivers will have the opportunity to earn one of two ULMA provisional starting positions during the MLRA late model race at LA Raceway in LaMonte, Missouri. Only drivers competing in ULMA-legal cars are eligible for the provisional starting positions. Drivers who are ULMA members will earn association points for their participation during the race program in the same manner as a regularly sanctioned ULMA race. The provisional starting positions will be awarded to the top two drivers in current ULMA standings who have not transferred to the main event under normal MLRA qualifying circumstances.

ULMA is pleased to announce the dates for this year’s annual ‘Triple Crown Shootout’ in which drivers will compete in a three-race mini points-earning series for additional prize money. Competing drivers have the following race options to garner three starts out of the four available races from Friday to Sunday: Friday, June 29th at Callaway Raceway or Friday, June 29th at Valley Speedway, Saturday, June 30th at Lucas Oil Speedway, with the finale taking place on Sunday, July 1st at Double X Speedway in California, Mo with a $750 to win race sponsored by Bonecutter Body Shop of California. Drivers not familiar with Double X Speedway will have a chance to get the feel of the track during a ULMA points-earning event at Double X Speedway on Sunday, June 17th to build up to the Triple Crown Shootout. ULMA recently learned that during the Triple Crown Shootout, Lucas Oil Speedway will pay $1,000 to win on Saturday, June 30th for late models in the special 25-lap feature courtesy of Rains Ice Company.
