Highland, IL (May 31, 2012) – Michael Kloos of Trenton, IL wins night one of the Tri-State Challenge featuring the MARS vs UMP at Highland Speedway in Highland, IL. Kloos, recorded his first ever feature win with the MARS series and picked up the $3,000 check for his efforts..
Kloos, started from this outside pole position and would get involved in a 3-car accident on the first lap when he would go three wide out of turn two with Ryan Unzicker of El Paso, IL and polesitter Daryn Klein of Collinsville, IL. MARS rules say that on a multicar accident on the first lap, everyone gets their spot back. Officials lined them back up and at the start Kloos would gain the lead and never look back.
Unzicker who started third would race his way to a second place finish. Jesse Stovall of Galena, MO; Kevin Cole of Benton, IL and Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, MO rounded out the top five.
Next up for the MARS series will be night number two and three of the Tri-State Challenge.
Paducah International Raceway, located in Paducah, KY will host night two of the Tri-State Challenge. Pit Gates open at 4:00pm. Grandstands open at 5:00pm. Hot Laps are at 7:00pm, and racing starts at 7:30pm. For additional details please visit the track website at www.paducahracing.com.
The final race will be at the newly named Federated Auto Parts Raceway (formerly I-55 Raceway) in Pevely, MO. The track, known for its lightening quick side by side racing, is a high banked 1/3 mile dirt oval. Pit gates open at 4pm, grandstands open at 5pm. Racing at 7pm.
