Springfield,Mo.-The “Quick-Quarter”of the Springfield Raceway will play host to the POWRi National Midget Series this Saturday June 9th and probably no other driver will be looking forward to this event as will be 19 year old Andrew Felker of Carl Junction,Missouri.
Felker will go into the Green Lawn Funeral Homes sponsored event holding down the number two position in the POWRi Midget point standing only behind Brett Anderson of Belleville,ILL.Last season Anderson struggled at Springfield and only netted a 18th place finish while Felker
Last year at the POWRi debut at Jerry Hoffman and Doug Bland’s racy multi-grooved track Felker was doing double duty running not only the Midget but also his 600 CC Micro. This season the 600’s will not be in action at Springfield only the Midgets along with a full Transport Graphics Points events for the tracks regular classes which will feature USRA Modifieds,USRA B-Modifieds,Midwest Modz,Legends,Pure Stocks and Street Stocks.
Last season the Midgets showed the Ozarks crowd just what 2-3 wide racing was all about as 2011 National Champion Brad Loyet started 6th in the feature and was the first of the Midget drivers to try the extreme top groove and took the lead at the half-way point to capture the win as soon after that move it was side by side racing action.Felker who is just 1 hour from the Springfield Raceway in Carl Junction has to consider this a home coming event for him and the family as he is in a tight point battle in the National Standings.Felker raced last season to a front row starting spot and finished third in the 30 lap feature after contending early in the feature.
Felker and Anderson both qualified Saturday for the National Hut 100 which was won by Brady Bacon.Felker drove to a 11th place finish while Anderson charged from 25th spot to finish 8th.
So far this season 8 different winners have grabbed POWRi midget wins as Felker won earlier at Peoria Speedway in Ill. while Anderson has 2 wins at Fayette County and Valley Speedway
The event is the only scheduled POWRi Sanctioned event this season as the track will hold a special Midget event later in July with the Summer Perry Memorial which is currently scheduled as an open event.Drivers from Missouri,Oklahoma,Illinois and the surrounding 4 state area are expected to be on hand.Local talent besides Felker should have Springfield driver Pat Schudy and Falcon,Missouri driver Eric Todd.
