DIRTcar Summer NationalsBatesville, Arkansas (6/19/12) –Billy Moyer Jr. went on an absolute tear during the opening week of the UMP DIRTCar Summernationals. The 24-year-old competitor piloted his #21jr Henderson Motorsports/Car City/Imperial Motors/Victory Circle M1 Chassis By Moyer/Pro Power Racing Engine Super Late Model to three wins in four events, including a $10,000 victory at Cedar Lake Speedway, during the opening week of the twenty-nine event extravaganza.

Below is a blog-style recap of Billy’s experiences during the opening week of the UMP DIRTCar Summernationals.

June 13th, 2012 – While the 2011 UMP DIRTCar Summernationals might not have been very kind to Billy Moyer Jr., he served notice on Wednesday night that he plans to get redemption on the tour in 2012 by claiming the $5,000 win in the series’ opener at Brownstown Speedway (Brownstown, Indiana). Forty-nine cars crowded the pit area for the event, and after qualifying second fastest in his group he claimed the win in his heat race to lock into the redraw for the feature. In the redraw he received the pole starting position, with his Dad, Billy Moyer, joining him on the front row. As the 40 lap race went green Billy bolted to the lead, and despite five caution flags that bunched the field he would be relatively unchallenged in claiming his fourth win of the season and his first career, Summernationals victory. He was followed across the line by Brian Shirley, Billy Moyer, Terry Casey, and Jason Jameson. The $5,000 payday tied his biggest career win.

June 14th, 2012 – The Hell Tour rolled into Kankakee County Speedway (Kankakee, Illinois) on Thursday evening for a $5,000-to-win event as forty-five competitors passed through the pit gate. In qualifications Billy recorded the fourth fastest time in his group, which earned him the fourth starting spot for his heat race. Unfortunately midway through his heat he would spin, which forced him to the back of the pack. He would rebound a few spots, but was forced to start deep in a c-main. As a result, he utilized a series’ provisional to start nineteenth in the main event. During the course of the feature he advanced six spots on his way to a thirteenth place finish.

June 15th, 2012 – As big as Wednesday night’s win at Brownstown Speedway was for Moyer Jr., on Friday night he reached an even bigger accomplishment as he claimed the $5,000 UMP DIRTCar Summernationals win at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin). Cedar Lake Speedway has never been a very good place for Billy as he tends to struggle on hammer down tracks, but on Friday evening he put it altogether and topped a talented field of 37 competitors for his second win of the week on the tour. He began the night by setting fast time in his group to earn the pole position for his heat race with Don O’Neal starting alongside. Billy out-dueled O’Neal to claim the heat win, and in the redraw for the feature he received the second starting spot alongside Brian Shirley. As the race went green Moyer Jr. shot to the lead and would withstand early race charges from Shirley before having to fend off a hard-charging Brian Birkhofer late in the race to claim his fifth win of the season. Birkhofer, Shirley, Moyer, and Jimmy Mars rounded out the top five finishers.

June 16th, 2012 – Billy’s dream week continued on Saturday night as he scored the biggest win of his career by topping the $10,000-to-win, UMP DIRTCar Summernationals event at Cedar Lake Speedway (New Richmond, Wisconsin). Despite an unfavorable forecast and threatening skies throughout the day, the fourth round of the Hell Tour was contested on Saturday evening at the 3/8 mile oval. Thirty-two competitors registered for action, and Billy paced the way in qualifying by setting fast time in his group to earn the pole starting spot for his heat with his Dad, Billy Moyer, starting alongside. Billy blazed to the heat race win to again find himself in the redraw, where he received the second starting spot for the 50 lap finale with Jason McBride joining him on the front row. When the green flag dropped on the feature Moyer Jr. assumed the top spot and would find the going easy early in the event. However, as the race approached its closing stages Brady Smith moved in to challenge for the lead. Billy would hold him off on his way to the biggest win of his career, and his sixth win of 2012! He was followed across the finish line by Smith, Shannon Babb, Jason McBride, and Brian Shirley.

June 17th, 2012 – Sunday night found the team rolling into Wilmot Raceway (Wilmot, Wisconsin) for another $5,000-to-win, UMP Summernationals events. With thirty-one entries entered, Billy found himself behind the eight ball early in the night by only managing the fifth fastest time in his group, which left him starting deep in his heat race grid. After managing only a sixth place finish in his heat he started in the middle of the field for the b-main and would advanced to a third place finish. However, only the top two cars moved onto the feature, so he was forced to use a provisional to start the main event in the nineteenth position. During the course of the 40 lap event he advanced seven spots to finish twelfth at the checkered flag.

“It’s just been a dream week for me,” noted an elated Moyer Jr. “I grew up going to these tracks and these races, and if you would’ve told me that I would win one Summernationals race this year I would’ve been thrilled. But to win three of the first four, that is just unbelievable to me. My guys are busting their tails out here, and hopefully we can keep performing and make a run at this title. I have to thank all of my great sponsors for their support!”
