Clarksville, Tenn. – July 7, 2012 – Three-time Hell Tour Champion Dennis Erb Jr. got his first win on the 2012 DIRTcar Summer Nationals tour Saturday night at Clarksville Speedway leading flag-to-flag to bag the $7,500 winner’s check.

Erb held off a valiant effort by defending Summer Nationals Champion Shannon Babb of Moweaqua, Ill., over the course of the 40-lap main event that saw the duo split lapped traffic while battling for the lead. Babb settled for second, a spot in front of current Hell Tour point leader Brian Shirley of Chatham, Ill., who rallied from a 13th-place starting spot to finish third. Tanner English of Benton, Ky., finished fourth while his father Terry English also of Benton, Ky., rounded out the top five.

Shirley’s point lead was cut to 34 markers over defending champion Babb with six events remaining.

The tour returns to action Sunday night at Tri-State Speedway in Haubstadt, Ind., for a $5,000-to-win main event. Shannon Babb won the Summer Nationals event at Tri-State in 2011.
