LA MONTE, Mo. – Lauren Klem, of Basehor, Kan., picked up her first L A Raceway feature win Tuesday night in the Gill Signs 305 Sprint feature event. She started on the pole and made a flawless run putting space between her and Tom McGarry, who is no stranger to victory lane at LA.

Klem started on the pole with Michael Schouten on her right. Schouten won his heat race with a strong run and held second in the feature until McGarry took it from him on lap four. Klem stretched her lead over McGarry and it looked like the race was done, until a caution flew on lap 11. On the restart, Klem took the bottom and McGarry tried to find something to bite down on in the middle of the race track. Klem had the faster run and pulled away from McGarry. The best battle was between Schouten and Tony Crank for third place. On the final lap of the feature, Crank was able to get in front of Schouten on the final turns in the race. Andrew Turley took a fifth place finish.

Galen Hassler has found the perfect setup on his modified racer as he picked up his fourth consecutive win in the Jim’s Tire Service B Modified feature event. Tyler Lewis, last year’s fast track champion, took the lead from outside of row one and led the first lap. However, a caution on the second lap gave Hassler the advantage he needed. On the restart, Hassler got a solid run off the bottom of turns one and two to take the lead from Lewis. Chad Staus took third from Adam Belt on lap seven with Bobby Wood sitting in fifth. Josh Calvert, who started third but fell back to sixth on the start, found the real estate he was looking for on the top of the track and started picking off cars as he charged back to the front. Lewis’ luck changed when a caution flag flew on lap 12. The restart gave Staus the opportunity to get in front of Lewis for second. Calvert mounted to the challenge of taking third from Lewis, but ran out of laps in the feature event. Staus finished second with Lewis, Calvert and Cale Turner in the top five.

Marc Carter picked up his third consecutive win and fifth L A Raceway win of the year in Xtreme Motors Street Stock feature event. Carter started on the outside of row one and had a strong run off the line to take the lead. Ted Welschmeyer settled into second with several fast cars right on his bumper to include Jay Prevete, Kevin Perkins and James McMillin. McMillin had fallen to fifth at the start of the feature, but temporarily settled into third on lap four. Two laps later, Welschmeyer got too high coming out of turn two allowing McMillin to take second. Perkins was in fourth until a caution flew on lap seven. On the restart, both Scott Krause and Allen Perryman were able to move in front of him.

With four laps left, Krause gets loose in the top of turn four and loses two spots to Prevete and Perkins. As the white flag flew, three cars connected in turns one and two. Krause and Prevete were able to continue, but Perkins came rolling to a stop. He was finally able to re-fire and finished last. Carter made the trip to the KOKO/98.5 The Bar winner’s circle. McMillin, Welschmeyer, Perryman and Prevete finished in the top five honors. Dean Wille picked up his second consecutive feature win of the season in the Pitts Homes of Warsaw A Modified feature after starting on the outside of row one. Terry Kirk and Chad Lyle put on a good show for the crowd as they battled for second. When Lyle took second on lap three after a restart for a caution, Kirk began falling back through the field of cars. Austin Siebert took third one lap later.

Terry Schultz had worked his way to fifth by lap four after starting thirteenth. Another restart on lap sixth allowed Schultz to move into fourth. A lap later, he took third from Siebert. Matt Dotson moved into the picture after yet another restart on lap 10. Both Dotson and Kirk moved in front of Siebert. As laps wound down, the lead cars began spacing from each other. Wille took to the feature win with Lyle, Schultz, Dotson and Kirk rounding out the top five finishes.

L A Raceway invites fans to join them Friday, July 13, as the USRA A Modifieds, B Modifieds, 305 Sprints, Street Stocks and Hobby Stocks once again take the track for the battle to be named track champion. Gates open at 5:30, with hot laps starting at 7:30 p.m. For more information about the track, visit www.laraceway.com.
