WINSTON, Mo. (July 12) – Trevor Hunt continued to steamroll through the Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge with his third straight USRA B-Mod victory Thursday night at the I-35 Speedway in Winston, Mo.
Chad Clancy jumped out to a big lead at the drop of the green flag, but mechanical woes sidelined the Smithville, Mo., racer just four laps into the main event. From that point on, Hunt remained in charge and zipped to a $500 payday.
Not only was it the third win in a row for the 13-year-old sensation from Liberty, Mo., but it was also his eighth top-5 finish in 11 starts, and padded an already healthy lead in the Industrial Material Surplus Iron Man Challenge points standings.
Nick Roberts, who captured his first Iron Man trophy in the season-opening doubleheader in March, made the trip from Des Moines, Iowa, pay off with a $400 runner-up finish while Doug Keller of Easton, Mo., charged from 15th on the starring grid to take third.
Nick Newton of Kansas City, Kan., was fourth and Mike Ryun of Pleasant Valley, Mo., finished fifth. Rounding out the top 10 were Jacob Ebert, Brad Smith, Mike Tanner, Dylan Book and Jeremy Pittsenbarger.
For thousands of race fans, Friday the 13th is their lucky day as the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA B-Mods joins the USMTS Modifieds as they invade the historic Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., for the first time ever.
Presented by Kaw Valley Sand & Gravel, the event will also have local Factory Stocks in action.
Gates will open at 5 p.m. on Friday, July 13. Hot laps begin at 7 and the first heat race gets the green flag at 7:30.
