USRAKANSAS CITY, Kan. (July 13) – Brad Smith of Belton, Mo., captured his second Iron Man Challenge victory of the 2012 season Friday as the USRA B-Mods made their debut at the legendary Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan.

Presented by River’s Edge Scrap Management, the main event featured 23 top-flight drivers and their machines in a 20-lap battle for a $500 top prize.

Hometown favorite Nick Newton took the lead from the pole position, but his reign was short-lived as Smith took the lead with a pass on Newton’s outside as the leaders came to the flagstand to complete lap 4.

After an early caution slowed the pace on the first lap of the race, the remaining 19 circuits went off without a yellow flag as Smith roared to his second win in his third start with Newton trailing in the runner-up spot at the finish line.

Points leader Trevor Hunt of Liberty, Mo., clawed his way to a third-place finish after starting eighth on the grid while Steve McDowell of Independence, Mo., and Ben Kates of Tonganoxie, Kan., rounded out the top 5 finishers.

Sixth through tenth in the final rundown went to Bryan Rigsby, Mike Ryun, veteran Gene Claxton, Jake Richards and 20th-starting Dylan Book.

The Iron Man Challenge returns to action with a pair of events next week for the USRA B-Mods as they accompany the USMTS Modifieds to Raceway Park in Jefferson, S.D., on Thursday, July 19, and then cross the border to battle at the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn., on Sunday, July 22.
