TUCSON, AZ – Nov. 20, 2012 – DIRTcar Racing will sanction the upcoming 2013 Winter Extreme dirt Late Model series scheduled for Jan. 12-20 at Tucson International Raceway, organization and track officials have announced.

Renamed the ‘DIRTcar Winter Extreme,’ the blockbuster mid-winter event at the three-eighths-mile Arizona oval will feature six days of dirt Late Model competition. There will be $3,000-to-win A-Mains on Jan. 12, 16, 18 and 19; a $5,000 top prize on Jan. 13; and a $10,000 first-place check on the line in the finale on Jan. 20.

All of the races will offer drivers an early chance to earn points in DIRTcar Racing’s 2013 national and Southwest States points battles, enhancing a week-long program that already ranks as one of the biggest dirt Late Model extravaganzas in the western states.

“We’re thrilled to have the opportunity to be part of an event that will turn the country’s attention to Tucson International Raceway in January,” said Chris Morgan, Director of Western Operations for World Racing Group/DIRTcar. “DIRTcar is striving to build dirt Late Model racing in the western half of the United States, so working together with (Tucson owners) Pat and Lynn Robley to increase awareness of the DIRTcar Winter Extreme and provide drivers more incentives and recognition is definitely part of our gameplan.”

The 2013 DIRTcar Winter Extreme will mark the fourth consecutive year that Tucson International Raceway (formerly USA Raceway) has hosted a January series of dirt Late Model racing. It will be the first, however, under the promotion of track owners Pat and Lynn Robley, who renamed and reopened the speedway shortly after the completion of the January 2012 racing meet.

“We’re really looking forward to giving the racers and fans a great show when they come to Tucson International Raceway for the DIRTcar Winter Extreme,” said Pat Robley, who built the track and operated it from 2004-2007 before returning to its promotional helm this year. “Bringing in DIRTcar to sanction the races will help us build even more interest in a week of racing we’re working hard to make the biggest in the history of the speedway.”

Demonstrating the growing popularity of January dirt Late Model action at Tucson, more than 70 dirt Late Model drivers competed in the events held there earlier this year. Winners included division superstars Billy Moyer of Batesville, Ark., Tim McCreadie of Watertown, N.Y., and Don O’Neal and Martinsville, Ind., and rising youngster Morgan Bagley of Longview, Texas.

The speedway’s location and amenities are also ideal for race teams and fans. There’s more than 20 acres of free camping for those who plan to stay at the track, and the facility sits “just 90 seconds from Tucson International Airport,” said Robley, “and within easy driving distance – and even walking distance – of probably more than one-hundred hotels, restaurants and clubs in the city of Tucson.”

Fans unable to make the trip to Tucson for the DIRTcar Winter Extreme can still catch much of the action thanks to live internet video coverage of the final four race programs (Jan. 16, 18, 19, 20) on DirtonDirt.com, the popular news website that covers dirt Late Model racing. Information on purchasing a subscription for the live broadcasts can be obtained by visiting www.DirtonDirt.com.

Tucson International Raceway will provide a preview of what’s to come during the DIRTcar Winter Extreme this weekend with the running of the Carl Trimmer Clash, a three-day holiday weekend extravaganza headlined by the dirt Late Model division. Robley said more than 50 full-fender drivers from across the Western and Midwest states have indicated plans to enter the event, which begins with practice on Thanksgiving night (Nov. 22) and continues with three days of racing on Nov. 23, 24 and 25. The Friday and Saturday programs will be topped by dirt Late Model features paying $1,200 to win, while Sunday’s finale will offer a $5,000 first-place prize.

Race time for the Carl Trimmer Clash is 6:15 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 1 p.m. on Sunday.
