By Ben Shelton – Batesville, Arkansas (03/04/13) – After enduring a Speedweeks 2013, which could only be described as a nightmare, Jared Landers was looking for something to get his season on track, and he found just that on Sunday afternoon with a $10,000 triumph in the March Madness event at Cherokee Speedway (Gaffney, South Carolina) in his #5 Clint Bowyer Motorsports/Peak Motor Oil/Barry Wright/Clements Racing Engine Super Late Model.
Twenty-nine Super Late Models were on hand for the 2013 lid lifter for the Southern All Stars (SAS) tour and Carolina Clash tour at the famed oval. Via preliminary action Jared locked into the fourth starting spot for the 60 lap main event. As the race went green Landers made a daring move, which positioned him at the front of the pack, and he went on to lead all 60 laps to claim the win, which marked his second straight title in the event. He was followed across the finish line by Steve Francis, Randy Weaver, Jonathan Davenport, and Dennis Franklin. Full results are available at www.SASDirt.com .
“Florida Speedweeks for us this year couldn’t have gone much worse for us as far as bad luck and random issues,” commented Landers. “Winning this race here today gives us so much confidence moving forward. We have a great team and great equipment in place. We just needed a few breaks to finally fall our way. I can’t wait to hit the track again to go after my second win of the season.”
The next set of events on tap for the team will be Ray Cook’s Spring Nationals at Volunteer Speedway (Bulls Gap, Tennessee) on March 15th-16th. A $4,000-to-win program will be held on Friday night and a $10,000-to-win race will be contested on Saturday evening.
