southern all star series(BRASSTOWN, NORTH CAROLINA) The Ray Cook Racing team rolled into the Green Valley Speedway in Glencoe, Alabama on March 1-2 for the 16th Annual ‘Bama Bash.’ In Super Late Model competition, Ray Cook posted the fastest lap in his group during the qualifying session on Friday night and later finished second in his heat race. After starting the $16,016 to win feature event on Saturday from the outside of the fourth row, Ray was turned around by another competitor on lap 11 and retired with heavy damage to his #53 ride. The Brasstown, North Carolina ace was relegated to a disappointing eighteenth place performance in the 75-lapper, which was cut short to only 61 circuits due to worsening snow showers.

Behind the wheel of his #53 Crate Late Model, Ray laid down the second quickest lap overall during time trials and once again finished second in heat race action. The popular driver known as the “Tarheel Tiger” was then scheduled to start fifth in the $2,016 to win feature event on Saturday, but the race was cancelled due to the snow and wet precipitation. Track officials opted to pay drivers for their starting spots, so Ray was credited with a fifth place effort in the Crate Late Model portion of the ‘Bama Bash.’ Complete results from the frigid weekend at GVS can be obtained by clicking on www.greenvalleyspeedway.com.

Warmer weather will greet Ray Cook Racing this upcoming weekend (March 8-9) when they travel to the Chattanooga area for a pair of high-profile Super Late Model showdowns. On Friday night, the Boyd’s Speedway in Ringgold, Georgia will play host to a $4,000 to win, unsanctioned program. The Cleveland Speedway in Cleveland, Tennessee will then take center stage on Saturday evening by hosting the 18th edition of the ‘Shamrock.’ The Southern All Stars Dirt Racing Series (SAS) will preside over the action at the historic Cleveland venue and a $10,000 top prize will be on the line. Additional information on both racetracks can be viewed by accessing www.boydsspeedway.net and www.clevelandspeedway.net.
