In just under a month, the United Late Model Association (ULMA) begins its seventh year of racing with its first event of the year at Fulton, Missouri’s Callaway Raceway. The first three points-earning events of the season take place on Friday evenings at Callaway Raceway on April 5, 12, and 19. Then, on April 20, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri raises the curtain on its regular Saturday night race season as the year kicks into high gear. On Saturday, May 11, Randolph County Raceway in Moberly, Missouri opens its doors after going through several off-season renovations and upgrades and a name change to add a north-central based addition to ULMA racing.

Lucas Cattle Company returns as ULMA’s title sponsor for 2013 as drivers set their sights on dethroning last year’s champion, Jason Russell of Henley, Missouri. At press time, Russell’s plans were to run for a second-consecutive ULMA championship, and if he is successful in that quest, he becomes the first-ever repeat champion in the association’s history.

Drivers that have already submitted paperwork for the season include: Larry Winn, 2010 ULMA champion Vance Wilson, Donnie Timmerman, Kenny Mudd, Steve Dieckmann, Ashlee Lancaster, Chris Lapp, Lane Ehlert, Jeremy Watts, Dave Miller, Jimmy Jobe, Dave Mosley, Jon Melloway, Walt Imhoff, Dalton Imhoff, Bob Cummings, Tommy Cordray, Justin Russell, rookie Bobby Penney, and Mike Berger. Other drivers expected to contend include Jon Binning, Chris Cox, Kevin Coyne, and Zeke Langley. ULMA’s 2008 champion, Jason Bodenhamer, stated he intends to compete with ULMA when not traveling with his super late model team. Many others are expected to complete their memberships in the coming weeks.

Practice sessions are scheduled as follows for ULMA-affiliated tracks: Callaway Raceway, Sunday, March 24, from 2 to 5 p.m. and Lucas Oil Speedway, Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Randolph County Raceway plans to announce its April practice sessions in the coming days. Drivers are reminded that 2013 membership is $75 through the end of March, after which the price increases to $100 for the remainder of the season. Check www.ulmaracing.com for membership information and forms and be sure to send paperwork in time to save $25 on membership.

Be sure to visit ULMA’s revised website at www.ulmaracing.com for all the latest news and information. The website also features a complete history of ULMA racing and the membership form, which may be printed from the site, completed, and mailed to ULMA if drivers are unable to make any of the pre-season events. Thank you to Lucas Cattle Company, Rod End Supply, RacingJunk.com, and PhotoGraphics by Shelly Payne for their support of ULMA racing.
