Brownstown SpeedwayBy Chris Nunn – The Indiana Late Model Series main event saw Tyler Allen andMark Barber make up the front row, with Barber leading lap one over SteveGodsey and Allen. The caution flew on lap two, as Adam Bowman got sideways infront of the field coming out of turn four. Barber led the field to the greenon the restart, only to see it brought back due to a spin involving MarkBechelli in turn two. When racing resumed, Mason Covey moved around Allen totake the third spot, bringing Shannon Reed with him to fourth .By lap seven,Barber held almost a full straightaway lead over Godsey in second. Behind them,Reed moved to the third spot, getting around Covey. Logan Mounce brought outthe third caution of the event on lap eight, as he spun in turn four. Therestart would be brought back due to a spin involving Kevin Denson, Jr. in turnfour. Barber took the field to the green on the restart, and completed one lapbefore Denson spun in turn two, collecting the car of Mounce on lap nine. The cautionwould fly for the sixth time on the restart, as Tom Ault spun in turn one. Theseventh caution flew on the restart, as Mounce spun in turn two. The fourthattempt at the restart would be brought back as well, as Bechelli spun in turntwo. The field took the green on lap nine, with Barber opening up over a halfstraight lead over Godsey. At the halfway point it was Barber, Godsey, Reed,Kendall, and Bowman completing the top five. Bowman moved around Kendall totake fourth on lap 14. By lap 18, the lead for Barber was well over a fullstraightaway over Godsey. The caution flew on lap 20, as Shannon Allen spun offof the turn two banking. When racing resumed, Barber would pull away onceagain, and lead the remaining five laps, unchallenged to pick up the win aheadof Godsey, Reed, Kendall, and Bowman

 

Mickey Hines and Dusten Carr would lead the Pure Stockfeature to the green, with Hines leading lap one over Carr, and Chris Branum. Carrpulled up to the rear of Hines on lap three, to attempt to take the lead, but couldn’tget under him coming out of turn four. Carr kept switching lines, moving highand low to try to get around Hines for the lead as they completed lap eight,but Hines was strong off the bottom of the track. At the halfway point, it wasHines, Carr, Branum, Curt Bennett, and Donnie Wilson completing the top five.Hines and Carr ran side by side, as they completed lap 13, with Carr taking thelead on lap 14. With five laps to go, Carr had pulled out to a halfstraightaway lead over Hines, who now had to contend with Branum in third. Thecaution flew on lap 20, as Jason Box spun on the frontstretch. On the restart,Branum moved to the outside of Hines to battle for second, taking the positionas they completed lap 21. Branum began to close in on Carr with just three lapsto go. The caution flew on lap 23, as Jason Basham spun in turn four. With atwo lap shootout, Branum was able to pull along side of Carr briefly, but Carrwas able to hold on. Coming out of turn four for the final lap, Branum took thehigh side, and Carr slid up, as the two made brief contact, allowing Carr tohold on for the win ahead of Branum, Hines, Bennett, and Wilson

 

The Super Stock feature saw Larry Booher and Tyler Cain leadthe field to the green, with Booher leading lap one. Rick Gumm battled withCain for the runner up spot on lap four, with Aaron Fields moving in as well.Fields and Gumm dueled side by side for the third spot on lap six, with Fieldstaking the spot at the line. The caution would fly on lap seven, as Jeremy Helton spun in turn two. On the restart,Gumm was able to take third from Fields, and then second from Cain. Cain andFields then battled side by side for the third spot on lap nine. Gumm poked hisnose under Booher on lap ten, but couldn’t make the pass for the lead. Gummmoved under Booher for the lead, and took the halfway signal ahead of Booher,Fields, Cain, and Paul Ortman. The caution flew on lap 14, as Danny Blackwellspun in turn four, then shot across the track right in front of the leaders.The lead cars were able to escape the accident safely. On the restart, Fieldstook the second spot away from Booher, leaving Booher to battle with a hardcharging Tim Clark. Clark and Cain went side by side for the third spot on lap18, with Cain being able to hold him off for the time being. With five laps togo, Gumm’s lead stayed at a little less than half a straightaway. Behind them,Cain flew off the turn four banking, losing numerous positions on lap 21. Thismoved Marty Cooper up into the fourth spot. As the final laps clicked away,Gumm was able to safely hold his lead, and take the checkers for his second winon the season at Brownstown ahead of Fields, Clark, Cooper, and Booher

 

Greg Garrison and Jacob Owens led the Hornet feature to thegreen, with the original start being brought back due to a spin involving BrianMitchell in turn three. Garrison led lap one ahead of Owens. A three widebattle for third took place between Chanler Fleetwood, Daniel Morgan, and WesNapier. With Napier taking the spot. Morgan took the second spot away fromOwens on lap six, leaving Owens to battle with Napier for third. At the halfwaypoint on lap ten, Garrison held over a half straight advantage over Morgan,Owens, Napier, and Fleetwood. With five laps to go, Garrison’s lead held atexactly half a straightaway over Morgan in second. The caution flew on lap 16,as Jason Mosier slowed in turn two. On the restart, Napier took the second spotaway from Morgan, and brought Owens along with him for the ride. Owens took thethird spot from Morgan on lap 16. The caution flew on lap 18, as Carrie Gilleyspun in turn two. When racing resumed, nobody would have anything for Garrison,as he cruised to the checkers

 

David Mielke and Devin Gilpin led the field to green in the25 lap Modified feature, only to see the caution fly on the original start.Mielke would lead lap one on the start, followed by Gilpin and Derek Groomer.The caution flew as the field completed the first lap, as Blake Davis spun inturn one. A multi-car accident in turn three slowed the field again, with onlyone lap complete. Another caution came out on the lap one restart as MarkBechelli spun in turn one. Jason Thomas would take the third spot away fromGroomer on lap three, as Mielke held a two car length advantage over Gilpin upfront. Another caution would fly on lap five, as Nathan Mensendiek spun in turntwo. When racing resumed, Gilpin moved to the top groove to try to make upground on Mielke. A two car incident brought out another caution on lap eight.Matt Boknecht, driving his fathers car, moved into the third position on thelap eight restart, and then moved under Gilpin for second. Gilpin moved to theoutside of Mielke on lap 11, and took the lead coming to the stripe on lap 12.At the halfway point it was Gilping, Mielke, Boknecht, Jacoby Hines, andGroomer completing the top five. Hines hen spun in turn two, bringing out thecaution on lap 14. On the restart, Boknecht moved around Mielke for the secondspot. The caution flew again on lap 16, as Groomer and Chad Combs spun in turnthree. With ten to go, Mielke moved under Boknecht to take the second spotcoming out of turn two. With five laps to go, Gilpin had stretched his lead toover a half straightaway over Mielke and Brad Barrow, who had moved aroundBoknecht for third. With two laps to go, Gilpin held a full straightaway leadover Mielke and would be able to hold on for his fourth straight win atBrownstown on the season ahead of Mielke, Barrow, Thomas, and Boknecht

 

Darren Crawhorn fought off numerous challenges from Seymour,IN native Jason Combs throughout the 15 lap Bomber main event. Combs made a fewattempts to get under Crawhorn, but couldn’t make a winning pass. Combs, JoshHayes, Roger Reichenbacker, and Ryan Scott completed the top five in the mainevent.
