USMTS - United States Modified Touring SeriesFAIRMONT, Minn. (May 23) – The parents of Johnny and Stormy Scott can probably empathize with the parents of Peyton and Eli Manning, and the mix of emotions they feel when both sons take the field against each other in an NFL football game.

What looks like it may be a regular theme at USMTS Casey’s Cup Series events this year, the Scott brothers were at it once again and were the class of the field Thursday night from the drop of the green until the checkered flags waved at the Fairmont Raceway.

Last month at the West Siloam Speedway, Stormy Scott outdueled Johnny Scott to win the main event but the tables were turned Thursday night by the younger of the 23-year-old twins from Las Cruces, N.M.

From the outside of the front row, Stormy Scott took command of the 30-lap feature race and proceeded to pace the next 29 laps.

However, he was hampered by lapped traffic over the final two laps and that was enough to let his younger sibling close the gap.

Exiting the final turn on the final lap, the leader chose the high line but the lapped car ahead of him did too. This opened up the inside lane and Johnny Scott took advantage.

After nearly 15 miles of racing, Johnny Scott led only 300 feet of the contest but it was the final distance and earned him a $4,050 payday.

Stormy Scott had to settle for a $1,500 runner-up paycheck while 2010 USMTS national champion Jason Hughes completed the top-3 podium.

Zack VanderBeek started and finished fourth and Lucas Schott was fifth. Joey Jensen, Steve Wetzstein, Kelly Shryock, Corey Dripps and Tommy Myer rounded out the top 10 in the first event staged in the Farm Boy BBQ Sauce Northern Region presented by Day Motor Sports.

Head east on I-90 on Friday and you’ll find the mighty USMTS Modifieds circling the Chateau Raceway in Lansing, Minn., for the 6th Annual Mike Guttormson Memorial presented by Tiny’s Body Shop and Powder Werks. Gates are scheduled to open at 5:30 with hot laps at 7:00 and racing to follow. Also on the card will be USRA B-Mods, WISSOTA Midwest Modifieds and Pure Stocks.

On race day, fans can pick up a discount card good for $2 off adult admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Austin and Blooming Prairie.

The Chateau Raceway is a semi-banked one-third-mile gumbo clay oval located 5.0 miles north of Austin on US 218 (Lansing Exit), then 1.3 miles east on CR 2, then 0.4 mile south on CR 25, then 0.3 mile east on 266th St. For more information call 507-391-2486 or check out www.chateauraceway.net online.

The fourth and final night of the Memorial Day Weekend swing happens Saturday, May 25, with the first visit this season to the Deer Creek Speedway in Spring Valley, Minn., for the 11th Annual A&A Electric and Underground Spring Challenge. Also on the racing card will be the Iron Man Challenge featuring USRA Stock Cars and USRA B-Mods. Gates open at 3:00 with racing at 6:00.

On race day, fans can pick up a discount card good for $2 off adult admission at Casey’s General Stores locations in Preston and Stewartville, as well as Cresco and Riceville in Iowa.

The Deer Creek Speedway is a high-banked three-eighths-mile clay oval located 11.3 miles south of I-90 (exit 209) on SR 16, then 0.7 mile north on US 63. For more information call 507-754-6107 or visit www.deercreekspeedway.com on the World Wide Web.
